I had asked them to disable sms alerts right after opening account. Getting all the necessary otps and transactions sms and emails as well. No issues so far.

specifically term used in banking is "value added SMS's" for all promotional sms you receive which are chargeable.
specific instruction to disable value added SMS only will work.

Call the bank and ask them to stop sms alerts. You will only get OTPs then. Nothing else. Not even transactions SMSes. Emails will also be stopped as it happened to me. Since now I am using it as main account I have asked to start the service back again and it is working well.
