I'm getting ads on my phone, without opening any apps or browsers!! it started yesterday evening and I downloaded only one app that day.. Lightroom Adobe app and I uninstalled it, thinking it was the reason for those full blown ads and then later I thought it was due to website like while browsing desidime.

But realised the ads kept on coming even when I was NOT using any apps or browsers! It's very annoying and take a good chunk of data away.

The ads are mostly of those annoying trading apps - coindx or something, etc.

I minimized the ads while trying to jump from app to app, to see where the ads were originating/showing up but as one can see in the first screenshot, it's showing up as standalone (?) Android? platform (I'm sorry I don't know the term nor what exactly it is).

Is my phone hacked??? I haven't downloaded nor interested in any of these things so how are they magically popping up every 2-3 mins!?

Please help me with suggestions to get rid of it.

P.S. I just found out my cousin wa using my phone to download a movie through a shady pirated site and caused the problem when he downloaded an apk and installed it. I uninstalled it too but the problem still exists. Have to check more thoroughly in morning.

SOLVED - Removed 2 unknown apps (that didn't appear on app screen!) from app installed list. Problem disappeared.

Go to your installed apps and go through every app you installed.

Secondly check every app with device admin permissions( and also check apps that have permission to appear over other apps).

It is probably an app that you installed recently

If you are unable to do these due to ad spam, you can power off and start the phone in safe mode then find the culprit

Yes, it's done! You're right, it's adware/malaware.

2 apps were there that didn't appear on app screen but appeared on app installed list, one was simply titled ad and the other didn't even have any name.

So, now I am feeling a bit scared. Is it safe to use net banking/UPI transaction on my phone?

Is there any way to check if it's safe, bro?

There's some malicious apk you gotta find and uninstall it.

I anticipated having the device model number or at-least the OS skin (brand specific operating system) in the first paragraph at-least.

Now I am assuming it is one of those chowmi shaumi bluemi redmi or some othermi device.

That battery indicator in the top right suggests it is Xiaomi alright. Their phones have been infamous for ads. When one offers phones with pricey Snapdragon chipsets at such low rates you need to make money somehow. Chinese and trust are two words you can't take together.

Unaware of portable devices, but on computer
once someone has selected or by mistake activated/clicked yes on some dynamic screensaver or dynamic background thing with some widget like updates of weather or news or something.
I was a nuisance and it almost completely freaked me out as I thought some virus or malwate did it.

Could it be that he or someone mistakenly selected some Google service or some application changed some setting in the OS, which persists even if the application is uninstalled (because device assumes that the Google account logged in has changed the setting or given permission for this spam)?
