12th gen is adequate for your tasks & duration. Go for the p series processor for an optimum balance of power & efficiency.

Ensure it has 16GB RAM.

SSD is a given nowadays in all laptops.

If we see new launch processors , we can understand that there is 10% improvement in speed at overall cores and little bump in GPU power and little saving on power there by battery backup.

If your main purpose is browse and coding ( assuming there are no heavy IDEs) used 10th gen intel i5 or amd is sufficient. But if you wanted 3-4 vms for your work, i suugest to buy latest ones due to architectural tweaks in processors to suit modern tech.

Doesn't matter the generation.

- Take what is in your budget with processor only of type P or H.

- 16 gb ram minimum.

- Ssd of 512 minimum or nvme.

- Go for evo certified laptops like asus vivobook evo s15, read about it and you will know why.

What is the difference amount your are getting?

If it's small then go with 13th.

Agree.since we use laptops for over 5 years easily , it is better to pay extra and get latest gen.

Question is how much extra you find justified. This depends on individual, If I were you I would pay max 5-8k Vs similar spec 12 Gen system

Better if you had shared with us the exact model number 😕

There are lot of mobile CPUs and plain 12th vs 13th gen comparison is absurd 😑

go to nanoreview.net and compare cpus urself see how much better it is if paying premium for that much better is worth or not.....also from 11th gen to 12th gen there was huge gain in single core performance in intel thats why a 12th gen is really fast in basic tasks but from 12th gen to 13th gen its usual 5-10% gain

As others have already said - stick to the 12th gen. It is good enough for most people.

For PCs, the processor is rarely the bottleneck. It is the software and Windows along with less RAM and slow storage (HDD in place of SSD) that are the long term issues.
