Sleep is the most complex and mysterious body process known to science.

You spend about 1/3rd of your life just sleeping.

Yet you ignore its importance on your mind & body.

Are you getting enough sleep or quality sleep?

An average adult requires daily between 7 & 9 hours of sleep to perform tasks efficiently.

Things which happen when you're asleep:

a. Energy conservation & storage

b. Self-repair & recovery

c. Brain maintenance

There are 2 categories of sleep:

1. REM (Rapid Eye Movement) [25% sleep time]

2. NREM (Non Rapid Eye Movement) [75% sleep time]

You enter three stages of NREM when you're asleep:

1st Stage = Lightest, lasts only a few minutes and makes up 5% of your sleep time

2nd stage = Still light, but deeper than 1st stage; accounts for about 45% of your sleep time

3rd stage = Deepest stage; accounts for 25% of sleep time in adults

Without enough 3rd stage sleep, you feel tired and drained even if you have slept for a long time.

3rd stage of NREM sleep is so deep, it’s hard to wake someone up from it.

In short, deep sleep is the most essential part of sleep required to be rejuvenated & reenergized.

Next time, when you sleep, just sleep deep.
