A valid doubt.
Each card network assigns its own MCCs and may categorize merchants differently. As per my understanding there should not be glaring differences, minor differences may be acceptable.
MCC codes and categories are different for different banks/card issuers.
Also, this, specific list is limited to business houses /brands and isn’t for general categorisation

My understanding is MCC is tied to a merchant, so when a merchant decides to accept card, he will approach a bank, and bank onboards him. If there is any lapse in filling forms during onboard, it can go wrong. But if categorized correctly, a different card on this machine will still have the transaction recoded aginst the MCC given by initial bank. Exempting clerical errors, I assume they shouldn’t differ across different banks atleast?
