Mobikwik fraud by scammers.

My friend lost 36k to scammers in mobikwik. This is what he narrated to me has happened to him.

1)Early morning lots of OTP was received on his mobile for login.

2) a IVR call(shows as  mobikwik support in green color on truecaller) comes to him and tells his account has be hacked and he needs to press 1 to stop it. He does and then it asks for the OTP to temporary block the account. He types the otp in the keypad and voila ,he gets an sms of credit card payement on 36k using mobikwik pay later (whatever its called) .

He complains within 10 mins in mobikwik by email and mobikwik further blocks the account.

What can he do to get back his money? I do not believe mobikwik will return his money easily as it is his fault as he has given OTP. He has yet to file FIR etc. can anybody guide what to do next.

He may try contacting the payment gateway(if any) and the mobikwik immediately with the FIR copy.

If mobikwik pay later was used the mobikwik may have some options to file a dispute or something similar to cc's.

Ask him to reach them on twitter and emails.

Bombarding I mean.

Chances are very less but this is the only option.

if payment made via CC to wallet then he has good chances to talk to CC issuer.

If Mbkwk Pay Later then Mbkwk will handle the issue & get the money back as there is paper trail.

Keep Cool & patiently chase it.

Something similar happened few years back. (2021)

Mobikwik used to allow login with password back then and did not require otp for pay later transaction.

Pay later limit was 1000, someone recharged their mobile for ~900. Contacted mobikwik support, they blocked the account, and after a week asked for FIR copy, which I did not care to do. I closed the mobikwik account then.

So file an FIR and get a copy as they will ask it later.

It is my friend only. I never give OTP to anyone. He asked my help so I posted here. If it was me I would have told that this has happened to me.

Jokes apart

Very Imp tips for future for everyone

First of all: It's MK Zip Balance now not Pay later

2nd : It must be turned on & doesn't look like it was turned off(but doesn't matter if fraudster is able to login then he can turn it on himself)

3rd: Even if your account is hacked in real or it's a bluff, Still there is one step pending which is i.e
Otp authentication still left for login or Transaction. So even if you are Doubtful or sure or in any any any any circumstances you can stop then & there only. You will be safe. You will still not loose your money after pressing 1.

4rth: Which App/ Portal/ Organisation/Entity asks for OTP on call that needs to be entered on Call keyboard/Call Keypad Screen ? Nobody.. as simple as that. So If a IVR is asking OTP it means someone is sitting behind to enter it manually. So you should be carefull. OTP is only demanded on online while browsing Web/App screen via Internet not on IVR
