Firstly BSNL is managing MTNL's network now - landline and mobile. So there's network convergence and availability of spares parts consumables like sim cards should be better logically (no personal experience). Since BSNL is selling sim cards elsewhere in India, availability is possibly just an excuse. They might be butthurt about getting VRS'd out of the company. They're refreshing their work force from what i hear.
Secondly, Chinese components are still banned, but there is a domestic alternative available that they have tested (~1.8gbps 5g speeds were seen for it) at Indian Mobile Congress in Delhi. Even if they can deliver 1/10th in real world it's impressive. And that Indian alternative is from Tatas, i don't know if it's equal to foreign but should be good enough that it atleast works.
Thirdly, govt is giving bsnl good spectrum and tower fiberization (can be read as capacity) is one of the highest for BSNL in India - higher than Airtel.
Now things look bright and rosy, but it remains an inefficiently run organization. So execution is to be seen... Fingers crossed!

Many it's offices closed nearby. For example- in Vashi Navi mumbai is only working and Nearby offices are closed due to major staff is taken vrs. To take sim has to go to vashi only. Don't take risk to primary sim if u want. Just if u want for data purpose buy a new sim Or elese to move to pvt operator
Thanks bro

Just one piece of advice on this. Operators CAN disconnect your number if it is without any recharge/bill payment for 90 days. If Jio hasn't done it yet, it's to keep a large subscriber base, but don't risk for 6 months if you have shared your secondary number with family/friends/colleagues, do it at least in alternate months or once every 2 months if you can keep track.
