The morons are going backwards. Used to recharge for 2 day unlimited data for Rs.55 on BSNL EDVO in case of excessive data need. Now, they have block the recharge even before payment page, ’It’s not a valid BSNL recharge’. Freecharge didn’t have the plans earlier, recharged once and got Rs.50 as balance complained to freecharge but no use.
and bsnl is closing too its EVDO service??

At least that’s the plan and they have stopped giving new connections in most exchanges.
that means end of road for wireless unlimited data

I was finally able to get a connection after a lot of convincing and some fake stories. I went to the CSC in majestic and they suggested me to go to the one near hotel Atria and the lady there was unwilling at first. I made up some stories and finally convinced her to give me a connection. For some reason she took only Rs.40 and gave me the sim card (I thought the activation charges are 350?). She had like a big bundle of cdma sims and told that they were only for replacements when I had this surprise look on my face.
hehe
anyways congratz

BSNL also going RCom way. They are upgrading to LTE on Band 5. They have already surrendered LTE spectrum on 2600 MHZ.

Not sure if BSNL cdma/evdo sims are available easily and even if available they wont give it to you without you persuading them. Moreover even BSNL has plans to shutdown but there is no definite timeline. So check with your bsnl exchange before you decide to buy the dongle.

There is no difference between cdma and evdo sim but activation process is different. If you say that you need the sim for call purposed they will not give you the sim and ask you to buy a gsm connection. You have to specifically ask them for evdo connection for data services and they might probably give it then. If you are able to convince them for cdma phone connection then you can definitely use it with the evdo data card.

Easy to convince aunties though.. Just tell them story about some friend in a small town having no internet and looking for a connection.
My sim was not activated and again I had to go to the BSNL office today. There was a guy there who does the activation and he told me to go to the below site to activate whatever plans we require. He told to do normal mobile top ups whenever there are offers on paytm, freecharge etc (yes he knows about all the offers and stuff) and use this site to do daily/monthly plan activation. He told me this saves the hassle of c-topups. Has anyone done normal topups before and used this site to activate plans?
http://www.genext.bsnl.co.in/cdmapr...d/
I registered and activated the daily plan and it worked. For some reason he had activated the data card purchase plan which had given me Rs.399 balance and 55 was deducted from it.

@thrifty_indian @getready
If you pay Rs.350 for new sim you get Rs.399 balance as new user.
Yes, that portal is for South Indian users.

I was going to buy unlocked evdo data card from ebay, but as I understood from this thread, this seems that reliance is closing their cdma service .. So should I buy or not?? Any hope left that they wont upgrade CDMA to 4g?
Reliance shut down is for sure as my cuzn told that he would be getting a free 4g device (Reliance cdma csc told that 2+ years customers would get free 4g device) here in Bangalore. Tentative date given by them was end of May, so no point in buying.
Relaince shutdown even in karnataka?? There are high no. of mts customers here. Only for their datacards though. They should continue cdma on mts network.

is there any way to increase signal strength ?
currently using zte ac 2766
Buy this: http://www.ebay.in/itm/CRC9-External-Antenna-Co...
But first check whether your dongle has the port for CRC9? It would be located on the side. There is picture guide too I posted a long back in this thread.
mine zte ac2766 doen’nt hav crc9 port :/
tried using powerbank operated tplink mr3020 at the terrace but signal strength was alwyz below 50%

depends on your area, My suggestion first take demo and then connection.

Don’t take it, as they might shutdown anytime stating that there are less number of subscribers. Happened with one of my friend, but it was a small town though. He was told that BSNL is shutting down wimax services nationwide and this happened 1.5 years back. So they still have this service? Which city are you from?

they aren’t offering any demo
demanding 4000 rs for installation

Took connection a year ago, They charged only 1800 and that too refundable… It was not great in my area, so i get it disconnected in a month… and they redunded security charges…
As per BSNL website, also there are no installation charges, only 1000 for device security and one month FMC.. that makes it 1750

Where do you live? There might be some other person here using EVDO who lives in your city.
IF it doesn’t connect in 1x mode then there’s certainly some problem with either your number or the BSNL server.

They don’t have simple technical knowledge.
For example, i have asked, how to check main balance in bsnl cdma. Their answer is, we don’t have any update regarding your query, so kindly contact nearest bsnl office
They are completely fools..
Every time they told, contact bsnl office.
