Hi Dimers,
I have a planned international trip in the first week of April, and my passport is due for renewal. I need the new passport by the 20th of March to get the visa processed.
I have scheduled the 26th of February as my appointment date. Two questions:
1. What's the processing time for renewal?
2. Do I need to convert the appointment to tatkaal?

Dont think it will be an issue. My experience was very good- I received my passport within 5 Days whereas my wife's passport was shipped the same day and received the next day. Unless there is an issue with Docs, you have sufficient time.
BTW, why have u fixed the appointment so late; why not pre-pone it, to be on the safer side?
Don't they do police verification for renewals?
they do, but it should complete within a month, so no problemo
No need for tatkal. In cities like BLR it is about 7 days. Tatkal is screaming out loud your desperation that you are willing to oil more to the cops.
(Ummm... big cities EXCEPT Dilli and nearby areas. I am unaware of Delhi NCR and occasionally hear incidents of them asking for tips.)
Just proceed with a regular appointment, the sooner the better. It shouldn't take you longer than a month in any case. I've got mine within the week.
If there is no address change it should be very fast (less than a week). If there is address change and police verification is required than it may take some time.

If all paper work is fine... Its very quick... After appointment.. 7 to 10 days max... With verification.
On an average 3 to 5 days.
If there is not changes in ur existing passport, they will issue the passport as post verification and ship it in next date.

Bro, if you have time, daily login on passport portal account 2-3 times and check latest available appointment date. Most of the time you will get early appointment too and you can reschedule. I have done it for 3 of my family passports and got within 1 week appointment, whereas original appointment was more than 2 months far.
15 days max for metro cities . 30 days lumpsum fir tier 3 cities. Renewal or new same procedure. Just less paperwork for renewal.
