Hi,

Is there any website from where we can get quote to replace screen of a Samsung phone? Can we inquire about the same from their customer support? Will the service center honor that price?

Thanks

a relative faced some issues with her old Shyamsingh J7 screen (or so she told, flickers once a while).
.
their family was given a spares + labour estimate of about 3600.
Phone was old, so she hurriedly went to some nearby shop and simply chose Samsung A50😛
.
Few month later (but over a year now), i happened to be there (Tier 2 town) and checked resale prices of the SM-J700F and found wide bargainable prices from 2800 to 4500 in typical mobile shop market.
.
checked with few local + national websotes but they too quoted astronomical prices for screen.
.
Tried to ‘sheeshi mein utaarna’ (cajoling) some Samsung service center people that you can somehow order just the spare part and pass it on. maybe take 100-200 extra and i would get it fitted.
Answer was NO.
Told them, you keep the old screen etcetera and i pay you (personally to the guy) 300Rs instead of official 500Rs labour.
Answer was NO, we cannot.
.
then kept hunting hunting.
Found a smart young (Sindhi) boy with a repair shop full of 1000-1500 dead phones or parts.
Luckily he had a dead pcb J7 but the fascia/body was golden (not black).
.
He casually said 2 to 2.5 thousand for such old screen (cannibalised from second hand phone).
somehow paid him 2100 … for he took the pains to preserve the upper layer (whatever it is called) of the display, as it had the black bezel.
Then he went to their own friend’s shop in the same cluster (98% same community/ Sindhi folks).. had the golden bezel/fascia from the other phone removed.
Whole thing (from entering the complex to exiting) took over two hours (including time to bounce between shops, negotiate buying old phone as it is).
.
But have a working Samsung J7, woth same black fascia/bezel + top glass/plastic as my relative’s phone and internal actual LED from that spare phone (which the shopkeeper boy had)
.
I think the phone still works fine.
.
.
Samsung service centers are all franchisee operations. anything spoken with the centralised customer care is rather irrelevant to them.
Unlikely that CC can even give you a wuotation, unless service centre themselves log the RMA (order).
.
they do offer 3 month warranty on such screen replacement (but off the record, they too acknowledge that for out of production models, the vendors for spares xhange and the replacement screens may or msy not be as good or exact same quality as that of the one the factory shipped device).

It all depends on the phone you are using. You can directly call up and ask the quotes it should remain the same i guess.

Service center quoted 7.5k including taxes for a 14k phone. BC monopoly.

Hard to find such technicians everywhere.

Service center is quoting more than 2×.
Do they give warranty on the replaced part from the service center.

Terms–

  • Listed prices are subject to change as per Samsung Internal Policy.
  • GST will be charged extra as applicable.
  • These prices are exclusive of Labor & other consumable used in repair. Exact repair cost will be confirmed at Service Center after initial diagnosis.
  • The listed prices are for premium colour and for maximum internal storage capacity, actual price for specific model will be confirmed by Service Center at the time of repair.

Only 1 service center here, they are saying the excess amount is their labor charge. Samsung said that they are charging screen price as per website+18% gst labor charges depends upon the service center’s discretion.

M31s Prime wasn’t explicitly listed. For non-Prime its Rs 3.6k. Taking into account 18% GST on both the replacement part and labour charges the latter seem to be around 2.7k which is exorbitant to say the least. Unless the price of the display for the Prime variant is much higher.
P.S. For years now the touchscreen has been fused onto the LCD/OLED layer. The third-party repairmen employ brute mechanical force to support the two. The results occasionally often aren’t great(the polarizing filter under the LCD can get torn in two) . Plus the repair parts are of lower quality (2 or 5 point multitouch vs 10 point, touch frequently stops responding etc. )

GST is included in the price of the display?
Xiaomi is way better as service charges are much lower and consistent all over.

Try with another service center. they usually charge 500 plus GST for labor and around 3.5k plus GST for screen. But the phone will be as good as new. U may try local shop near u for changing screen but it will also cost arond 3000 for an acceptable quality screen and the finishing will be nowhere near as official due to using the third class glue for packing.

A lot of them are franchisees, they go to the same market where you’d buy a cheap knock-off display/digitizer…

They charge you for the labor and any price for the display, there was no mechanism for tracking (I’m talking about 2-3 years ago) not sure about now.. They have better equipment so some of the fixes are more permanent, not some temp fix where you need to rush to sell the phone… Way more expensive though, if you’re out of warranty for whatever reason, it’s a rip off…

Local shops take more care and try to do a better job, although they do a lot of jugaad in the phones, jumpers instead of fuses, drag solder across and make a bridge, etc.. add glue gun glue instead of high quality resins etc… But cheaper, especially if you get the spare part…

Decide accordingly…

Best, is to DIY after thorough research…..
