HI, I am planning to move to railwire broadband. So below are my queries. Please do reply if you can.

(1) Is it wireless broadband or totally wired?
(2) What are initial installation charges? They asked me for 2000 installation charges and 2000 deposits. Is this the same charge for
everywhere? I think it’s a bit too costly.
(3) How has been your experience with it, if any?

I bought it last month

1. It is wired but you can make it wireless with router (DSL). I had TP-Link W8968 which I was using with BSNL and the same router works wink Other models may not work and also I have DSL 2750U which can be used but after flashing different firmware.
2. I paid total of Rs. 4500- 2K for Modem, 1K for rental advance and balance for installation.
3. It has been a pleasant experience with a downtime of just few seconds in the one month I have used. No problem whatsover especially considering the frequent disconnections I used to face with BSNL. Go for it blindly unless you want to wait for Reliance Jio (Which may or not launch in March!)

This TP-LINK TD-W8968 300 Mbps WiFi Modem (White) was available for <Rs1000 on paytm(https://paytm.com/shop/p/tp-link-td-w8968-300-m... days back. I went through details as it works as modem+router, Pure Router, repeater….all-in-one. Rs2k is high price.

Like I said, am using the same TP-Link W8968 which I was earlier using with BSNL. The issue is that they have provided a PON modem which has optical input and I cant find the same in my modem-router so using W8968 only as router. Maybe some one with more technical knowledge can enlighten more..

Input from cable box to a PON Modem and from there WAN output to router.

Railwire is a fibre net, not DSL like airtel/BSnl ------ TP-8968 and DLink2750 , both devices are Modem cum wifi router, can be used in AIrtel/Bsnl, as both ISP need modem to decrypt, as Airtel/Bsnl give internet by copper cable wires Modem cum Wifi router = single device which convert analog signal from copper cable wire and change it to digital / then wifi (give access wirelessly) Both devices can be used as wifi router too, that is using only its wifi router feature without Modem feature, so we can use in railwire ------ About railwire : Railwire is given through Fibre (not copper), so it doesn't need a modem only wifi router is enough. Railwire end device is GPON (it convert fibre light to digital vice versa), we can connect the GPON output directly to pc or wifi router. So you get : Fibre wire => connected to small converter passive box => connected to GPON => connected to wifi router(if you need wireless) or pc(if wired is enough) better buy Tp-Link 740N from snapdeal/ebay, its avaiable around 800 rs. 740N - N means, only wifi router, not modem, we doesn't need modem for railwire, so understood technology better, so you can plan

Is there a device which can be used as both modem+router for railwire connection? I’m planning to opt out modem from railwire due to cost factor. They are asking rs.2000 for modem alone.

Does that mean we don’t need a modem at all? Railwire guys asking me Rs. 2000 for modem alone. I have to buy a router separately. Can you recommend a device with modem+router capability?

The reason for high cost paid by me is I AM THE ONLY CUTOMER OF THIS BROADBAND IN MY LOCALITY. I regularly ping them to establish network tower in my reason for 8 month then they agreed to give me connection..my area is little remote… https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif
