We all post how to get credit cards here . But sometimes we close existing credit cards and then regret later thinking it was a big mistake.

Let's share our experiences so we can learn from them.

My regret - Closing One Card as it was FD based. After using for an year closed it but then one card never gave me a card . Really regret as I will miss one card offers and probably never get it again. sad

Have closed just 1 CC ever - the secured IDFC First WOW card because IDFC just won't give me any unsecured card, despite huge amount of FDs and big amount in savings account. They won't even let me apply, no cibil enquiries, nothing, as soon as I enter PAN and DOB, it says "Sorry but you can't proceed." WTF?

I took WOW card for 0% forex (at the time, there was no CC like Scapia easily available with 0% forex and RBL World Safari was quite premium card then). I also got Thriwe Visa Infinite offer via WOW card due to Visa Infinite platform (3 months Amazon Prime, ₹250 BigBasket voucher, PharmEasy Plus) and overall my spends on forex transactions were quite a lot during last year, so saved quite a lot. During Diwali it gave ₹250 cashback, occasionally 20% discount on bus tickets via Yatra.

It so happens by coincidence that many years ago before I started using credit cards, I had used BNPL (Pay Later) services to build my credit score. And somehow the lending/loan partner for my Amazon Pay Later, Flipkart Pay Later, Mobikwik ZIP and Ola Money Postpaid was always IDFC First Bank. But I never defaulted or paid late. Always paid on time, closed off those BNPL accounts completely and closed WOW card too. Still IDFC is being a jerk about it. Eventually I will approach RBI to force them to fix the error and at least let me apply after CIBIL check or card-to-card basis for a credit card. Have written to their PNO too, but no action. Whether or not to approve after applying is at their discretion but at least they should not block me from applying.

I have closed 4 cards till date.

Freecharge Axis - Closed for making way for Axis Ace. No regrets

SBI SimplyClick - Closed to make way for SBI CB card , now regretting as going to close CB also.

SBI CB - Closed as they reduced limit to almost unusable limit. 34k. No regrets

SBI has brought back the limits to previous limits after one week for all. There is some issue at their end.

ICICI is like that only. I have a ICICI platinum card with Rs. 99/- annual charge (almost 10 years old card). I asked them to make it LTF but they refused.

Now, I got ICICI Rupay coral for LTF. Thinking to close platinum one.

Closed Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card. Reasons :-
1. Unable to link to UPI app at that time
2. Annual charges

Now, I am regretting it. Because
1. Started working with UPI later
2. Annual fee can be easily waived off using tricks.
