I have been a regular customer of both these supermarkets. I find groceries in D mart are much cheaper as compared to Relaince Smart. But sometimes you might find some items better priced at Reliance smart but overall mostly D mart is cheaper in terms of groceries.

Big Bazaar got taken over by Relaince, and now is Smart Bazaar. D Mart is very popular due to its competitive prices on groceries. Usually, it's cheaper than online platforms. Which of both offers overall cheaper groceries?

Mostly snacks and drinks are cheaper in reliance
Flipkart grocery offers many grocery items cheaper than both. Do check prices on them before you place the order.
D-mart has no fresh produce section (except packaged dairy).
Some things are store specific too, in D mart.
Sometimes the fresh produce in Bigbazaar Reliance are of stale or inferior quality, but prices are high.
Usuaally the Sahkaar Bhandar outlets in big cities (managed by Reliance Retail) and direct Reliance outlets have good quality fresh veggies.
For packaged groceries, usually Avenue Supermarts cracks some nationwide deals on large brands and often have festive or other running offers.
Thus, some chocolates, nuts, dry fruits, dates, some derergents/ shampoos / bathing soaps, desi snacks get discounted at D mart.
Certain times, oils, staples, grains and pulses (open/unpackaged) are a bit more competitive at Reliance.
After its IPO, with the backing of a reasonaly large warchest, Dmart got even more aggressive and focussed.
Whereas, Reliance Retail seems more focussed on the franchisee businesses it has
(Marks and Specers, Burberry, Diesel, Canali and so on)
than the jamboree of Reliance Fresh versus Jiomart, Reliance Digital stores versus wesite, Sahakar Bhandar and RSmart which it has created to brute force into consumer level retail operations.
Dmart is loosing its charm . Its pricing is not as before also quality compromised produce is now being started by dmart for discounts just like others.
It's rather the opposite. Reliance has stepped up in recent years. It has price matched with dmart for popular items like atta etc.
Due to negligible difference in prices+ many smaller reliance shops nearby with less crowd, I have started preferring reliance now.
I also feel the crowd of dmart are also kind of weird. Almost every other person is purchasing over 10K worth of products stocking for the entire month, resulting in very big queue
Twice i found reliance billing a hundred rupees higher than MRP and customer view screen is not avaialble what is typed on screen unless you go home and check the bills
Customer care phone number is off list
You have to drive back for return and refund
I have no trust on reliance
