Nothing can be done.

SBI is worst in this case. Even if you file chargeback..

Shared OTPs 😳

And you reported it as fraud.

Indeed it is a fraud/scam.

Fraud definition as per Google:
1. (an act of) cheating somebody in order to get money, etc.
2. a person who tricks somebody by pretending to be somebody else

Brother sorry for your friend's loss

But as OTP was shared

Then it construed as a consented transaction and does not falls under purview of fraudulent transaction

Hence I don't think anything can be done now

As bank will not be accountable in that case

Btw why he shared the OTP at first place

U can try for chargeback

But personally speaking I don't think anything is possible

Tagging some of my friends for more visibility

I would suggest you to involve cybercrime aswell in this case.

Solution to your friends complaint will be subject to department's discretion.

nothing can be done, contact cc , let them know, who shares otp twice, must read the sms.

File FIR online and get cyber complaint first , even if you shared OTP it is fraud by the fraudster, so if you have FIR filed and that FIR can be submitted to CC company , there is 50% chance of going things on the positive side

So "FILE FIR FIRST ONLINE" and inform "CC company about this as well on written Email"

There is chance for reversal if FIR police complaint got fruitful in some months.

So FIR and wait for police confirmation ON SOME SOLUTION for it WORST IS for 2 to 3 months regarding this and after that you might have some solution or lucky is 3 days time

So please file FIR ONLINE FIRST and do it NOW before its too late, since 3 days grace time is usually there for CREDIT CARD TRANSCATIONS for processing

if CC Company wants they can reverse the transaction in 3 Days, SO PLEASE GET FIR FIRST AND DO THIS REVERSAL REQUEST TO SBI immediately

Hope this saves

Approach SBI CREDIT CARD / BANK in person WITH FIR AND SOLVE THIS, all the best

Note: FIR CAN BE FILED ONLINE TOO REMEBER THAT

NOTE2: CREDIT CARD HAVE 3 DAYS BEFORE ACTUAL TRANSFER HAPPENS SO THIS CAN BE STOPPED BY BANK IF YOU HAVE PROPER FIR I THINK

I don't understand how people share OTPs and immediately realise that fraud happened with them, almost suddenly they start remembering every legal option to attempt recovering the money.

Similar thing happened with one of my Known.

Bank was icici, method was rent payment.

Otp was not shared but somehow fraudster get acces to OTP may be by some screen sharing or anything else.

Immediately contacted ICICI CC they raised complaint also from our side we raised the issue at cybercrime portal.

On 2nd or 3rd day there was temporary credit, net day was reversal of transaction,. All this within 3-4 days.

So, in your case , ask your friend to contact sbi cc asap, don't reveal you shared OTP ( as it can be accesed by fraudster innother ways as well ) the  write your complaint at cybercrime portal.

Wait for 30 days, if bank is not supportive shoot a case at RBI OMBUDSMAN as rbi clearly states customer has no liability of any fraudulent transaction if reported Immediately.

Also its a CC not bank account so reversal is much easier for bank.

I will be specific with 2 instances.

1. These credit cards are used for online shopping on some fake companies. If so with the help of cybercrime police, the chances of return is high.

They dispute both the sender and recipient banks citing it's a fraud txn. Banks hold the amount and reverse the txn. FIR is mandatory and should be raised within 24 hrs. You will recieve amount in 3 working days.

2. Credit card companies should flag repeated amounts instantly and reverse the amount in this case. I didn't get how 2 txns went through. If you fight with bank citing poor security and data lo leaks, you will get 2nd txn amount only.

Nothing can be happened since the card holder had given shared OTP means given his consent.

Yes bank can't do anything. But cyber police can definately help if they want. They can confiscate all the fund of the scammers and his linked accounts. Domestic Digital payments can tracked easily but the real problem is police is too lazy to do this.

For those who are blaming OP or his friend:

To be honest, all it takes is one bad day to fall victim to a scam. Scammers are becoming increasingly intelligent and persuasive. It's important to note that being scammed does not necessarily mean one lacks intelligence, even if it's an OTP scam. If you read news articles and posts on platforms like DD, you'll understand that even bank employees and those from the RBI have been scammed. I personally know someone who worked in fraud prevention at Amex and they were also scammed, specifically through a UPI scam. It can happen to anyone, especially when we're busy or in a rush and fail to pay attention to small details. Scammers take advantage of those moments. For instance, one day a Jiomart delivery person came to my house and I asked if he needed the delivery OTP. He explained that he couldn't mark it as delivered at that moment, but would call later in the evening for the OTP. I agreed. When he called in the afternoon/evening, I was in a hurry to take a bath and had to rush out, so I didn't check the sender of the OTP. Without thinking, I shared the OTP, luckily it was indeed from Jiomart. My point is, even though I am aware that OTPs should never be shared, on that particular day, the circumstances were such that I didn't check the sender of the OTP. I always check from whom/where I received OTP, but that day I missed to check that. This goes to show that anyone, even those who are knowledgeable about these scams, can fall victim under certain circumstances.

Bad day=  A lot of home/office work + Stressed mind + bad luck + In hurry.

Also, OP shouldn't get upset with the comments, whenever you post something on a public forum one should always be ready for both positive and negative comment. Also, your friend actually ignored lot of red flags.

I am shocked to see how at first SBI went through with such a high transaction value without getting blocked.

As per SBI trend, most of it blocks the card due to high value or new merchant being used.

Anyways sad for the loss, hope you and your friend have acted upon the advice shared above.

After conversating with  my friend in detail with physical meeting, i came to know that he had not shared otps on call to fraudester, rather fraudester sent him link (something like google forms) which has sbicard logo and friend was asked to enter otp there by fraudester for change of card from pulse to cashback. He recently got the pulse card by sharing otp consent on link (usual process of sbicard application in which agent cheated him by changing card type) thats why he fell to trap of fraudester. The agent who had helped him getting his card, guessed well that my friend is not much knowledgefull (friend does nt understand english😛)   and as per my guess that agent had leaked data to fraudester (e.g. friend want cashback cc, had 1.25 lakh limit sbi cc and 1.08 lakh limit hdfc cc, enters otp happily in links 😜) .

May be agent also will get his share for leaking data.

Not yet, police station informed that funds were deposited to a small finance bank account through cheq app rent payment and funds were further moved to other bank account(s) thats why it is taking long time, all involved accounts are getting freezed 1by1.

At the other end, sbi gave temporary credit (as a result relief in paying bill yet) and replied to mail that they are also investigating.
