I would wait for the final sale confirmation. Tide can still turn towards Kotak or some new player. Have Citi Credit Card.

Since Citi bank is soon going out, what's your next move?

If you're a Citi bank account holder, it should not be a news for you that Citi is selling their retail business in India. This is likely to be Axis, being the highest bidder, or Kotak with the second highest bid. See news article below.
‘Axis closing in on Citi India’s consumer unit’ - The Hindu
Just wanted to check what are you guys doing with your account? Are planning to keep it? or are getting it closed? I just got mine closed because I have had really bad experience with Axis (see below). I loved Citi for its excellent customer support & chat feature. Infact, I closed my account within 5 minutes using their chat!
Coming onto my experience with Axis, they deducted Rs. 5000 from my priority account (with 2L balance) for non-maintenance of balance in my other axis account which I did not use and was infact opened to help one of the sales guy meet his targets. I met with Ops head, said they can only refund 1k. I transferred all my money out, and will not even bother getting the accounts closed now, because screw them! So when I heard Axis is the likely purchaser of Citi's assets, it was a no brainer for me to close it.
Axis has a very bad reputation and I don’t find kotak bank features attractive. But since I do not have any Citi Bank account, no impact for me

I have their credit card as well. Will get that closed in some time. Probably not that big an issue being a loan rather than my asset.
Very disappointed that Citibank is closing their retail operations here in India.
I get my salary in my citibank account.. now will have to consider moving my salary elsewhere.
I definitely don’t want to use Axis.
I was hoping DBS would bid for it.
please share the closure process. have both account and credit

The simplest method is, you should wait for quarter-end when interest will be credited. I did it on 1 Jan. Transfer all your money into some other bank and make the balance zero. Since you are doing it on the first day of a new quarter, no interest will be due.
Login to internet banking and start a chat support session and tell them you wish to close account. They will initiate closure instantly. Account will be closed in 3-4 days.
Close it there are better banks than axis
Axis Bank is the worst bank of India.
If SBI or IDFC takes over their credit card business it will be good.

HDFC if interested in its cards & not having any. DBS is also good for its occasional offers.

If you have a salary acc in HDFC then they will start calling you within a few months to get card from them(agents get commission for any successful card approval). System generated offers nowadays also have ltf without any conditions though I & many others got hdfc card with ltf condition based on spending a certain amt within 3 months. You should aim to get at least Millennia card(nowadays good benefit on amazon & flipkart) or Regalia(starting card for upgrade path to top tier cards like infinia). Keep in mind there is also a Regalia First card which is different from Regalia & basically inferior card even to Millennia despite its name.
Get HDFC Platinum debit card(non-rupay variant) which has 750 annual charge but free for 25k min bal acc(supposedly free also for salary acc). It gives 1% cb for cc bill payment via hdfc billpay(hdfc own cards not supported, also BoB cards not supported but major ones like sbi/axis/icici/amex supported).

@guest_999; Can you please mention the full name of debit card from HDFC? I see so many variants.

But any card with platinum in its name & non-rupay(currently mastercard new card issuance is blocked by rbi so that leaves only visa) will work. I have seen comments from ppl here mentioning platinum debit card is free for salary accounts.

No additional charges but settlement varies from few minutes to 4-5 days depending on the card & obviously HDFC own credit cards & some others are not supported but all major ones are. 1% cb up to 750 per month is the limit.

Also is there way I can get LTF Millenia or Regalia if I apply from system links or maintain 1 Lakh balance in A/c?

Where does the cashback get deposited to?
Also from which date till which date the month is counted?

LTF offer is always system generated & keeping 1 lakh balance may help but does not guarantee that you will get ltf offer or even any pre-approved card offer.
All cashback for hdfc debit cards come in the form of cash points which need to be redeemed via netbanking(1 point=Rs.1,redeemed amt gets credited to bank acc).

Thanks @guest_999 for the info.
Any system generated offers nowadays for LTF? Also other ways of earning cash points on Debit card (Any good ways of shopping/other activities) ?
Is there any redemption fee for burning these points?

LTF is system generated based on your profile and relationship with bank.
Platinum is only good for other cc bill payment for 1%. So if your cc bill is 75000 pm then Platinum is better otherwise go for millenia. It gives wallet load 1% upto 400 pm also other than online transactions. No charges for redemption of debit card points

Platinum card also gives 1% worth reward points for telecom & utility bills & 0.5% worth reward points for Groceries & Supermarket, Restaurant & Apparels, Entertainment. Keep in mind these cb depends on whether the txn gets classified as one of these categories, surest way is to do direct txn on telecom/utility company site or sites like bigbasket etc or swipe cards in dmart/peter england exclusive store etc.

@guest_999; And from where can I redeem these points specifically? navigation needed
Also do these points have expiration date or something?

All hdfc debit cards feature points(aka offers which are unique to that card & its major feature, like 1% cb on bill payments for platinum debit cards) have 1 year validity. You need to check points via internet banking—debit cards—enquire—cb points & there you can redeem points at the rate of 1 point=Rs.1. Smartbuy cb points come with 3 months validity & can be redeemed with no other condition but platinum debit card feature points(aka 1% cb on bill payments) have the condition of redeeming only in the multiple of 250.
