Hi guys,

I have Redmi Note 7 pro (64GB variant), I love photography, and keep clicking pics of anything. Now storage is keep getting full, only 500Mb to 900Mb is free, and I keep cleaning by MI cleaner, but Now I am fed up with notification of low storage space. I have already transferred 20Gb of files last year in my PC. Now I don’t wanna transfer in PC, because I hardly switch on my PC.

Kindly suggest me a good online storage with good space of 5GB-10GB, with good features like auto uploading, syncing with laptop, tablet, mobile. There are lots of cloud service are available now, One cloud, drive, dropbox, box, mega. But I have never used for storage of pics before. rolleyes

I have the same query. As I don’t own a Pixel anymore and i don’t think I will in future either, what’s the best service/ site whereto I can upload the photos in their original quality (non compressed). I was thinking about Imgur, don’t they accept unlimited images (jpegs) at original quality? Never heard of Yandex, will check it out.

Best option is to buy a hard disk and store all the photos on it. No risk of privacy and data leaks.

Don’t trust them hard disks anymore since my 2 tb external died couple of years ago. One power surge, or some malfunction in hardware and done. But I am considering an enterprise level one like a WD Red or just another Black for that purpose alone, but still, it’s going to remain a mechanical drive. An SSD will be much better, but investing behind an SSD just for this purpose alone isn’t feasible for me.

100% True, during graduation I have clicked almost 10,000 pics, videos from Nokia N73, N95, 5230, 5800 etc. But after transferring to PC and external hdd now I never see back.

But FB timeline shows memories sometime of old pics and makes me feel so good. grinning

Yes, free for live.
Only issue is bandwidth which is 5 GB /per day.
If you exceed this limit you will not be able to upload / download files.

p.s. trick is to simply reboot your net connection. You will get a few IP and limits are reset.

no, they (imgur/desidime) do not (keep the image as original).

UltraImg.com type sites, i think, saved the image with the same name as original, but not sure if it maintained original quality.

Nope, not for titillating images… it was rather mostly for projects or diagrams or scanned (costly) reference books and sending it over to someone with good OCR software or manually typing it (in case of vernacular books) where every person in the group had to convert N number of pages by weekend and (then) the (physical to digitally converted) reference book was circulated as RTF (rich text format) file/s.

@kool if all you need is 5 to 10gb then why not use google photos itself? I find it to be one of the most seamless service in terms of usability.

Even if one uses a device for 2 years and opts for a basic version of 64gb or so, all it costs for google one service as of now is Rs. 130 per month that provides 100gb of storage which translates to Rs. 3120 for 2 years on monthly basis or Rs. 2600 for two years on yearly billing basis. One can opt for it if the overall storage goes beyond the free 15gb tier.

Their charges are absurd. I almost went ahead and you took their subscription thinking it’s non recurring charge. But later realized that as long as you need to access those files you must keep paying and paying. Lmao. Imagine how tiny 200 GB storage is when you have paid even for just one year, the longer the duration the more ridiculous it is. For what one will spend in two years, a 2 TB hard drive can be bought with.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I checked imgur upload policies last night and indeed they compress all the images. I was totally mistaken with the idea that they hadn’t! Shame. I would pay for Google Drive storage but as it’s not a one time charge and one must keep paying for an indefinite amount of time (or in other words as long as you need access to your files) it’s just a preposterous thing to consider in my books.

It’s a trade-off between convenience and cost. If one prioritises convenience of having access to the entire collection at any time then he has to shell out for convenience as opposed to storing on a hard drive which is as good as a cold storage. Most of my collection on hard drive is not even accessed once a year on an average whereas the collection of google photos is accessed very often, few times a week when in need.

Coming to the cost. As the storage space required keeps getting accumulated over the years the cost of storage keeps getting lower as well. Google is able to provide 100gb for Rs. 130/month now and it might be bumped up to 200gb or so a year later for the same price. We know how cheap storage has been turning year by year.

True. Price of Convenience can’t be properly deduced. But still as every decision I take goes through my brain at the final step, she didn’t agree with me paying recurring charges of 130 PM for that amount of storage. So for the time being I’m just uploading all the stuffs to a pvt. TG group i just created.

in a labour abundant but capital scarce country, that too for an individual, it indeed is so.
however, having used SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) and other ‘Enterprise’ level products, services from conglomerates in the West..
it (to me) seems like, the many verticals and N number of offerings these companies have… some are just for namesake.
As in, Asus launching Zenbook Duo (after the Pro Duo) shows they are actually trying to make the (dual screen laptop) form-factor a worthwhile mass-marketable reality.
But when ABC Inc./ Google type giants have acquisitions in Fossil/Fitbit, Flutter or other such tech and patents ..they wait.. wait till a new Google Glass cum some wearable becomes a reality.

Same way, these Enterprise oriented prices are not really to lure people in, perhaps.
But just to make the presence felt or to make alternate offerings look better.
If we take the example of fries/drink at McD/junk food chains… the medium size.. is not really meant for selling.
But rather.. to make the small serving look too costly/less valuable.. yet at the same time.. just a marginally more financial outgo can get one a “large” serving.
Maybe the pricing of these paid plans (by cloud space providers) is similar .. Jedi mind trick.

In a capital abundant country and if tax laws allow one to book various expenses to P&L account, maybe the businesses do not mind paying up.

but for the average Joe, the trial of Amazon Web Services, Azure (Microsoft) can work, in conjuction with ⬇using MS/Google as a retail/ free for personal use⤵ kind of relationship.

like some bloke rightly said above, it hardly takes 4-5 minutes to create a free (verified) account at Microsoft, Yahoo or Google.
and the aggregate storage in the latter (inclusive of Drive, Photos, Gmail etcetera) is 15GB for now (unsure if the limits would significantly go up in this decade, if they continue pricing the paid options such).
