For the big brainacs who think this is about one party or another & have got sentiments hurt because I used a name or sentiments enlightened because you hate that party, you're idiots.

This is about a service, with data, calling out the changes under both governments, given in the original link. I don't lick any party or person's ass, unlike you, to put that political a$$hole on a pedestal, because that & all politicians are manipulators & aren't loyal to anyone but themselves. My vote goes to the least a$$holic party during election & I'm loyal to no one but the one who can provide me good services in exchange for my vote & my taxes.

Summary:

Under Narendra Modi's government, Indian Railways has experienced a notable decline in passenger numbers, with 32% fewer passengers in 2022-23 compared to 2013-14. Travel costs for passengers increased significantly, with an overall rise of 108% in 2021-22. Unreserved sleeper-class travel became over four times more expensive. Additionally, there was a 13% reduction in the share of second-class seats and berths in 2022-23.

The speed of trains has remained largely unchanged since the previous government, and punctuality has been an issue. From 2016 to 2020, punctuality averaged below 80%, consistently missing the 95% target from 2016 to 2022. The financial health of Indian Railways has also deteriorated, with a surplus decline of 80% between 2013-14 and 2022-23. The operating ratio reached 107% in 2021-22, indicating worsening financial conditions.

Ordinary passengers have been significantly impacted by these changes. They face higher travel costs, fewer available seats, and poorer travel conditions, particularly for second-class passengers. Overcrowded trains have led to safety incidents and dissatisfaction among travelers. Meanwhile, there has been a shift towards premium services and AC trains, catering more to upper-class passengers. New initiatives like Vande Bharat trains and plans for more bullet trains by 2047 reflect this focus.

Despite government claims of transformation, the data does not support significant improvements in service or financial health. Complaints and incidents reported on social media highlight the decline in travel experience for ordinary passengers. Overall, Modi's tenure has seen a focus on premium services at the expense of ordinary travelers, resulting in increased travel costs, overcrowding, and financial struggles for Indian Railways.

Never knew people could be this dumb

Have some common sense. You should be a citizen, not a party's puppet. It's citizens vs govt. Raise voice for better services, not for any manipulator.

OP, 2 questions -

1. Out of curiosity what's your age? This is your second post where I can see the same aggressive style of writing. I would have assumed it to be in the late teens or early 20s but you said "my taxes" which leaves me a bit confused. Very rarely people in late 20s and beyond use this style of writing.

2. Have you travelled by unreserved or sitting/sleeper (non-AC) classes of IR in the past couple of years for non-suburban distances?

I am not debating the statistics you have posted because a few Google searches do confirm the decline in passenger numbers. Article 14 (the site) and you are rightly entitled to draw the inferences you have  plus1🏼 The beauty of statistics is that depending on the statistician's leanings, different inferences can be drawn from the same set of numbers.

Ironically, I have used IR the most in the past couple of years through mostly 2AC rides with a 1AC, Vande Bharat, Rajdhani Express ride each thrown in. So, for me, there's never been a better time to ride with Indian Railways. That's just anecdotal evidence though, as a statistician would call it  smile

Ideally passengers should increase YoY & till 2019 it was in upward trend. During COVID time there is a decline which is expected. In 2013-14 it was 8.43 billion passengers travelled, in 2023-24 it was 6.5 billion passengers travelled. We need to wait for 2024-25 numbers. I feel 2024-25 numbers will be equal to pre covid levels as everything is open now and this year elections are conducted as well, tourist places are heavily crowded.

There could be many factor behind it which we can't predict.
now, may be some people prefer to travel by air.
or may be traveling by car even to go for holiday. because at tourist place, train is cheap but internal travelling is very costly now. so I see many people who now prefer car over train for holiday.
or it could be that it reached to pick level where drastic change in number of passenger will not occur.😉

joy joy joy

You are good in writing skills fire

While I just say it clearly on face stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye.

It's not his first time doing such posts.

I should not say this, but Indian passengers lack civic sense as they know they won't be Punished severely for their bad behaviour.

As a result they crowd knowingly AC coaches although majorly in busy lines.

If Indian Railways start deboarding those passengers then Democracy will be in danger.

Railways is expanding fast, fully electric & once dedicated freight corridors are ready , trouble will be much lesser.

And you can't just expect every like Amoreca & L00trope in 10 yrs. grin

The other day, someone was cribbing to someone else that the Duronto ticket she took is so costly and did not even get discount for being seventy plus.

I told her, kakiji (cousin aunt) phir ek baar 🧔🏻 sarkaar.
I was not expecting her to use vulgarity as she is seventy plus, is a relative and was literally around others.. so i was a bit taken aback when she got furious and blurted 'tu jaa kar Rahul (RaGa) ki chaat le'.
I was like wait, what! kakiji thinks I am Karan Johar or into rim jobs¿
Even then.. like seriously.. why would I choose RaGa for it?

Now I seriously pray that just like Amtrak and others in U.S.
India too should move towards private public partnerships in railways.
Obliterate all concessions amd make that bl⦾⦿dy dynamic pricing.. EVEN MORE dynamic!
And my 🙇🏻cousin aunt and uncle🛐 stay healthy, live💪🏻 for another 100 years. KakiJi aap abhi ki 'Palace on Wheels' in pricing.. future ke 'second AC' ya 'chair car' mein dekh kar jaao.. yehi prarthna hai 🙇🏻Prabhu💪🏻🛐 se.

During the infamous Laloo Prasad years, the revenues got squeezed up mainly by overloading the goods trains or designing slightly different carriages to accommodate more cargo (at-least bulk cargo).

Apna 🧔🏻‍♂hero💪🏻 on the other hand does not bother beyond fancy dress competitions and cameras. Bas woh dou requirements puri ho jaaye, phir 🧔🏻‍♂apne hero💪🏻 ko baaki koi cheez se KOI LENA DENA NAHIN.

I sincerely 🙏🏼pray🛐 that our 👴🏻superhero🧔🏻‍♂ too lives🙂 another 100 years. Majja hee aa jayega.. general coaches purey (completely) hee hata dou. Northeast, Jammu aur hilly areas ki train connectivity puri hee khatam kar dou.
Let 50-60 new Indigo, Go Air (🐂bullock carts in the air) start. Or let the likes of Ryanair, Wizz Air, Spirit Airlines and others capture Indian markets too.
Would invest in them.

But yes, the rich have little to complain if the coaches of the new trains are not turning into a rain dance festival, during rainy season.

Pubic hair or other hair in the food served in the railways has always remained a steady, static feature since 6-7 decades now and THAT.. literally nobody expects to change.
Not that I have not found hair in restaurant food too, but I do not even drink Tetrapak'ed soft drinks served in Rajdhani or the second AC of other long distance, express trains. No food or water of railways, even if included in the fare.
