Upgrading to Jio Fiber STB plans

I am on Jio fiber 699/ plan, 100 Mbps, postpaid quarterly plan. I was using old fire stick and the remote is broken now. I was considering upgrading to jio fiber 799 plan, with OTT. The app shows free STB and I have to pay an extra 100/ month for the OTT. Does anyone have experience with this? Do I have to pay anything extra for this? Coz I mostly watch youtube only with the TV.

My options are either to get a new 4K firestick for ~3k or get a Jio TV STB. Dimers, please help me to figure out.

If you are thinking to upgrade Firestick, get FS 4K max.

3.6K, Does it worth it? Coz I was using fire stick, and barely used anything apart from youtube, even though I have big 4K TV.

Call cc and ask for box. You can close plan after 1 month too. Another option is to close this account and get new connection with stb. They are giving it free with advance rental.

If only youtube is needed, just get fire stick 3rd gen for 2k (some offers might make it 1800 or so)

Even though you watch only youtube you will slowly start watching web series or movies on other OTTs.

OTT majors like SonyLIV, Zee5, and Hotstar comes with 899+GST plan same 100Mbps

I have been using the 999 plan (14 OTTs + 150Mbps) for almost 3 years. I only use JIO STB because it has all the OTT apps. I rarely use Firestick.

so for an additional 200 per month for OTT apps and STB or Buying a new fire stick is your choice.

I stay with a friend, and we both rarely get enough time to watch series and all. I only use it when any of our friends visit our home. It feels awkward to have a 65" Tv in the living room without a connection. I have a tata sky set top box I rarely used. I think I will go with JIO STB, I already have access to many OTTs that I got through my airtel postpaid. I rarely had chance to use them.

If you already have airtel postpaid, then think about AirtelBlack. You can remove tatasky also.

I used Airtel Black earlier, but they often mess up billing, and the amount of time I wasted was terrible. I will keep mobile and broadband separate. Tata sky is an old connection, I am no longer recharging that.

Does the OTT stuff work only on their STB? Would like to know how its user interface, remote control works compared to Fire Stick, Chromecast (with remote) etc.

i have been using JIO stb for more than a year. UI is super smooth. All ott apps are there. Better to close connection and buy jio postpaid fiber with advance rental where you get jio stb free. i will recommend as im using daily.

once you active them in their STB, you can use anywhere... similarly every time you recharge jio , you have to open the app atleast once in their STB only then the subscription life time increases in the OTT app... lets say you recharge for a month... all the premium membership will be valid 1 month. when you recharge JIO after that one month, you have to open those OTT apps in STB to reflect new end date .

regarding interface, its highly customized android os. but we cannot install ant app we want, it must be coming from their store. no side-loading possible.

Remote - works fine just like any other remote... voice search is good.. other than that nothing special...

youtube casting alone you can do...

Thanks @Santushal for your insights. Glad to know the OTT apps work fine on any device. This helps a lot in comparing the cost of Jio STB vs individual OTT subscriptions.👍🏼

even though Jio claims 14 OTT apps free... only consider SoyLIV, Zee5, Disney+Hotstar, Voot, SunNext, and Discovery remaining ones are crap. Amazon Prime is also free only for the 1st year.

Which channels do they give for free when they mention 400+ free on demand tv channels? Are the major channels like star plus etc included in this 400 channel list?

I'm also interested in knowing this. Do we have DTH channels (like Airtel/TataPlay/DishTV DTH) in there? If not, there's not much use of just getting just OTT stuff. I have a Mi Box and I use Kodi JioTV + Pikshow. I used to have Airtel DTH (360 plan) + using Local ISP along with Mi Box. I need to upgrade my ISP to Airtel/Jio now, so which one would be better for DTH+Broadband? Need help on this 🥲

Once you are in Black, you are in their grip. You will not be able to surrender any of the connections individually. Your bills will not show in any other app and you cannot take benefit of any discounts etc.
