Hi,

.

One of my friend who lives in Bangalore was looking to sell his iPhone and upgrade. I found everything perfect and since the friend is trusted, proposed to buy the phone from him.

Now the problem - he lives in Bangalore & I live in Kolkata. We are having a tough time to decide how to send it safely. It is of value approximately ₹45-50k so if lost would mean a huge loss to us.

It is not possible for us to physically meet and exchange else would have done it; neither I have any other friend in Bangalore who can carry it for me.

After hours of research I found the following:-

1. IndiaPost - Asking for total ₹3000 inclusive of insurance however they supposedly handle packages roughly and ₹3000 is high.

2. ShipRocket- Competitive rates however as per Shiprocket customer service, they won't provide claim since the item is old (not new) and no commercial buy or sell transaction is taking place. Would have costed ₹1k

3. DTDC - Costing ₹2k approximately. Insurance is available however as per Twitter, they don't have OTP based delivery system so sometimes packages are stolen (marked delivered without delivery)

4. Bluedart - Costing ₹1k however unable to find the insurance rates or terms or conditions anywhere

.

5. Porter - Not allowed to ship electronics

6. Delhivery - Costing ₹1.6k with insurance however as per their policy insurance covers inly 50% value - if it gets lost 50% gone!

7. Xpressbees/Ecom/Aramex/FedEx - Insufficient data about anything.

Request the dimers to share their opinions urgently. I find myself in an odd place- I do not have concerns about the phone condition as the friend is very trusted however I'm concerned about the shipment 😓

Don't go for it. Just buy something else and conquer your greed of notional savings.

That would be my suggestion

Try some packers and movers... tell them you left an old phone at your old place and your friend has it...

Try asking on your socials if anybody is travelling in the same route and can do the needful

No one os travelling that's the problem. I have decided that in case I ship it via any courier (Bluedart or DTDC or Delhivery), I'll keep the phone on with sim for location tracking that'll give some confort

Catch a flight or train and directly handover it since it's very risky nowadays else find someone who's travelling in the same route.Don't know how speed post is charging you 3k o.P

There are secured couriers available which are used by Local or Boutique Jewellery Sellers to deliver, they generally charge 1% for new customers.

Second option - What I've done in the past to send a new iphone from blr to siliguri via normal delhivery courier without insurance is - wrapped the phone box in a bigger box and covered in few layers of aluminium foil, and kept some eatables too, then packed again with layers of bubble wrap. I had heard the scanning machines won't show whats inside the foil. Ofcourse there's a risk. But the phone was delivered safely.

Bluedart and keep phone location ON so you can match the tracking data and feel safe.

Do update us here after you get it delivered.

I went to BD. They gave me a quote of 1.5k via ground (told will take a week) and 3.7k (if Air). Insurance extra.

After much thoughts and interacting which branch employees, chose DTDC Air.

They didn't allow insurance (old item) took ₹650~~

They packed everything very nicely whith lots of bubble wrap and tamper proof outside sealed packing and it reached to me from Bangalore in just over 15-16 hours. Extremely satisfied with them 😄
