Have they started charging MDR to merchants ? I paid 20k to my friend’s merchant QR code through Rupay CC and he transferred me back. How much will be charged ?

Not yet. Only selected payment gateways launch RuPay CC link UPI acceptance.

Other payment gateways still use old "Debit UPI" network but will soon launch "Credit UPI" network.

Merchants have an option to enabled or disabled "Credit card link UPI" acceptance.

Note - no charges for small merchant under 2k payment (dnt misuse the free mdr otherwise your credit card link UPI payment will block).

Good to see options given to merchants. I hope the free MDR stays in future, so that small shops are not burdened

That's true.

But, The day MDR on the UPI will start, India will go back to the cash transactions. All the businesses can't afford those charges.

Is it enabled by default or manually enabled by the merchant by going into the settings?

No, UPI was charging MDR between 2016 and 2019.

zero MDR actually slow down the UPI transactions.

"Debit UPI" network MDR charges between 2016 and 2019 were -

Zero MDR on transaction under Rs100.

MDR charges just 0.1% between Rs101 to Rs1000.

Transaction above Rs1000 - 0.25% MDR.

UPI was growing fast when MDR charges were imposed. Some banks like Kotak bank offer 10% upto 100, 200 or Rs500 via UPI spend almost every month.
