Vaccine News: Oxford University resumes trial In UK

1. Oxford University has announced that clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine, under development with the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, are to resume in the UK. The trials were briefly paused after a participant fell ill.

In a press release this afternoon confirming the resumption of the trials, Oxford University said the pause had given time for a “review of safety data by an independent safety review committee, and the national regulators.”

It said: “The independent review process has concluded and following the recommendations of both the independent safety review committee and the UK regulator, the ”caps">MHRA, the trials will recommence in the UK.

2. “Robust Immune Responses” Indian Vaccine-Maker After Test On Monkeys

Bharat Biotech that is developing the coronavirus vaccine COVAXIN in its latest report has said an animal study has shown a vaccine candidate has helped develop a strong immune response to the highly infectious coronavirus.
“To summarise, the vaccine candidate was found to generate robust immune responses. Thus, preventing infection and disease in the primates upon high amounts of exposure to live SARS-CoV-2 virus,” Bharat Biotech posted on its website.
