Say I have a prepaid plan of 6 months and after the first month of use, I port to another operator. Do I say goodbye to the leftover balance of 5 months?

It don’t go to operator but become income of DoT as operators are not allowed to keep it. They have to report at end of every quarter that how much prepaid balance they put in sundry.

If operator dies, they are ought to return it to customer by way of cheque. DoT asked RCOM to refund but nobody gets anything. I had Rs.225 in 3 RCDMA sim cards. Lost it when it died.

Best thing is you use balance before porting out. You can legally get it back but time consuming and money needed to be spent for taking money back.

The leftover 5 months is like you giving alms to beggars. You won’t get it back, ever.

Just be happy thinking you gave something to beggar.
