At 18, there's not much choice other than an add on. I'd suggest Amazon Pay ICICI or HDFC Millenia

Unless he is really responsible don't get him a credit card.
Even if he is, At college going years, he is bound to friends who are little irresponsible at best(can't choose who we love).
If they knew he had a creditcard, you are in big trouble.
If you get him an add on, tell him it's only for emergencies and school supplies. He can't use it for anything else.
Let him build his own credit history when he is of age.
