Yes I agree that the scenario you have put forward does make it very difficult for Amazon to deal with such situations. At the same time, as a customer I also felt disappointed both by the shipping and by reaction to my request

bro in this case no where amazon is at fault -
whenever you order anything you are supposed to agreed by its TnC , and amazon TnC is best as of now in defective/damaged items case .and for this item 30 days are more than enough for replacement purpose .
even if it was for gifting purpose then hope you would do order few days before day you want to gift .
Still even after 30 days on contacting amazon they happily agreed to offer you 50rs gift card without returning the pen .
they also even cared for you and told you that in case of refund super value day offer will be lapsed .
however amazon cc would have transferred the chat to supervisor then he would have given too same resolution .
and i checked now that pen cost is 95rs http://www.amazon.in/Pilot-Frixion-Clicker-Roll... and you availed super value day offer too , even then he agreed to give 50rs gv .
so this was best thing offered to you .

Moral of the story: Open every thing as soon as you receive it to avoid getting disappointed later.

Same issue faced by me also, they just disconnects the conversation by simply saying is there anything else we can help out today..

In your case, Amazon is believing in you, and offering Rs. 50/- compensation even though you reported the incident after return window closed.. There, I am applauding them.

And why would they believe you now, they had given you a sufficient amount of time to check and provide feedback within same time.

I only do gv orders from Amazon ND suppose if u don’t receive gift card after order how to get copy or resend dat gift card??
2 mnths back during mmt 250 off offer had ordered few gvs out of which 3 wer not delivered so tried chat support ND Dey told me I can resend gift card from my orders section….ended chat ND checked my orders section but cudnt locate resend link so again contacted dem….
Everytime I contacted cc used to say me same thing we cannot do anything u hev to resend from my account….
Can anyone tell me wer d hell is dat resend link??
It didn’t ended wid dos 3 mmt gvs…even few bb egvs ND bms also didn’t received how to get copies??
As per amazon cc it can be resent from my orders section, same thing is mentioned on amazon help section also…

I ordered shoppers stop egv 2 days back & mentioned wrong email id. I received email from them to correct email or send it to alternate id thru website OR contact their CC.
I saw under order history there was no option to resend unlike few other similar GCs. After 3 attempts / times sending that resend button is removed.
CC can not send the gv as similar to GC alpha-numeric code which is not seen by them, they can not edit email where we need it.
So dont waste time in getting it, try to get refund citing unsent, unutilised.
I asked for refund, they gave me 450 twice , later removed one
