You could have compared Daikin with O General or Mitsubishi which are in a different league altogether and also costlier.
Voltas has to be compared with LG, Samsung & Hitachi

Voltas isn't great (I am using one). Hitachi, Daikin, O General and Mitsubishi are good. Usually Hitachi sits right in the middle of quality vs cost.

Never used Voltas but using Daikin since past month
Pros : Cooling and air throw is too good, Energy efficient shows compressor output % on display
Cons : Remote needs to be facing ac and not far away to work properly whereas my lloyd ac remote works in any direction, Outdoor Unit is noisy. Installation is expensive (Rs 1770) and they try to rip us off by selling stand, 3 core cable, drain pipe, insulation tape at overpriced rates.

Yes, I got ripped off during Daikin installation. Installation must be done only through Daikin authorised service center for warranty registration. It is better to settle on a fixed amount for total installation charges before installation or purchase. In hindsight, I should have gone for Mitsubishi.

should i go for voltas ?
I have installed Daikins last year.
Looks/Feels better than Voltas till now.
Go for Daikin. You will get somewhat silent operation compared to Voltas.
Having said that, if you can stretch your budget a bit more, Mitsubishi is the best.
