South: have seen Lakshmi and also other brands.
West and North: Kirloskar, Crompton Greaves.
East: Grenco too is seen.
Just to save myself from legal hassles (as I do not know when and under what circumstances it is legal to suck excess water from public supply).. my suggestions are regarding usual 'domestic use' pumps or for moving water to the overhead tank from the ground tank.
Since Crompton and Kirloskar are more focused in stuff and Kirloskar specialises in pumps of all types since decades
I would personally prefer Kirloskar over other new brands.
(Also, their products are so popular that getting it repaired, if need be, from third party mechanics or repair shops is easy too.)

Dont know about direct connection to tap, but i was using lucky pump and was very good.
