Xiaomi Mi A3 Dead

My Xiaomi Mi A3 suddenly refused to turn on, long pressing power button doesn't work, not even combination of volume up/down along with power button helped. Upon plugging into charging, nothing happens. Waited for 2 days, maybe it will start working, no luck here as well. Upon researching a bit, found that probable reason could be damaged Power IC. 2 questions here : - If you've faced something similar, what was the issue and resolution? - If you've faced this issue and Power IC was replaced, can you tell me how much it cost? Need a rough idea about cost and avoid getting robbed.

Phone is dead now after one and half year of use.

i took it to authorised service centre they checked it and say issue in mother board and that’s quite expensive it costs around 8500. I’d left it dead.

pathetic phone, my first and last from Xiaomi.

Did you get it checked with local mobile technicians. Service center do no repair/change components of motherboard so even for a small fault they service change directly motherboard. It must your phone power IC be faulty or CPU/flash rom are not making proper connection with PCB.

My A2 is still rocking.

It just became a bit slow, and battery performance slightly degraded.

The Kapaver Case I bought with the phone recently worn out so today I bought a new one.

My mom currently using it and she loves the phone.

If you don’t rely on banking apps much then install a vanilla (without gapps) custom rom. It will run superb without any issue.

I think xiaomi intentionally harm their phones with stupid OTA updates.

Better stick to custom roms.

@sahil1033 had similar experience day before yesterday, my mi A3 had 60% charge,i was searching something the screen suddenly went off,i tried charging, pressing volume plus power but the screen never turned on not even the tiny white light on top,the service centre said whole motherboard has to be changed,so gave it to a local shop he said the power IC is damaged but he’s unable to find the replacement IC so he can’t fix it,if you have repaired your phone or found a solution please mail me at REMOVED ,also if anybody knows how to extract the data from a dead phone like this, please mail me!!

The local technical making excuses that he is unable to power IC for MIA3. Two power IC are used in MiA3. PM2125 & PM632 both IC are pretty common & easily available in market of even a lot available in scrap motherboard. The point either the technician is not very good fault finding & or motherboard is damaged (tracks pads etc) You are saying your phone died but there is white blinking light. This thing happen in two cases. Software is usually corrupted or emmc damaged or soldering pads disconnected from motherboard pads.
As for data recovery it’s not possible to recover data from your phone unless it boots completely. Even if we extract emmc (flash rom) from motherboard put it into flash reader we will get nothing because data is encrypted. When data is very important for customer we do swapping motherboard means transplanting CPU & flash ROM on another same phone.

Even my 2 years old Mi A3 died all of a sudden. The local repair shop couldn’t repair it and he asked me to visit service center saying it might need motherboard replacement. But considering the cost I didn’t visit service center and the phone is now lying idle.

I’m not too sure what the guy said, he said either MIMC, eMMC or any close combination including letters C & M for sure.

But anyway, upon searching for Power IC, pricing ranges well within Rs. 500, then why is he asking for Rs. 2,000 for replacing the same?

I think it is no co-incidence that 2 of my sister’s Mi A3 also went blank. I had purchased it 2 years back for them. Seems like planned obsolescence from Mi as Android One didn’t fetch it much revenue.

I did take it to a local shop today. He said that there are 2 possibilities, if Power IC is to be replaced, that will cost Rs. 2,000 and something EMMC chip is to be replaced, then that will cost Rs. 3,500.

I feel so terrible that out of nowhere it stopped working and damages are so high for a phone around 12k. pensive

eMMC is the storage chip. It’s quite rare for it to be affected. But it’s better if that were the case!

Mi A3 was my first and last phone from Xiaomi. Pathetic phone and updates (Proximity sensor didn’t work for 60% of the time i used it, each broke used to break it)
Maybe take it to the nearest service centre for use it as a paper brick.
Mine had burn-in issues just after one year, got it repaired for 5500 from service center.

For spare list, you can call them. They’ll quote you or select your phone and check herehttps://www.mi.com/in/service/spareparts...e/

I think it’s better to avoid authorised service centers. Even if its IC could be replaced separately they will insist on replacing the entire motherboard which is prohibitively expensive. I haven’t come across a single report so far from those using custom ROMs with such issues. Only those using stock MIUI.

None of any mobile company replace components, they replace on module like motherboard, Charging Board, LCD, Battery. Nokia was only company which had components replacement policy. I had charging issue with my Nokia XpressMusic. They replace charging IC only which cost me around 550 something that time. But all mobile companies just replace models only.
