Aliexpress asking for ID Proof

Created a new account on aliexpress for the first time on 12th for the 11/11 sale & added the product in cart.After few hours decided to buy so made the payment with card.After clicking on pay now button,the circle kept on spinning with nothing happening afterwards.Waited for an hour before deciding to contact chat support.They told me payment processing may take up to 24 hours so decided to leave it & wait.Checked today & found out order status still showing “awaiting payment” so again contacted chat support which told me to make the payment again.I tried & this time immediately got payment error saying “transaction flagged due to security concerns”. Thought some issue with card so tried another card & got the same error. Again contacted chat support which then told me that I need to use the “claim appeal” option to verify my account & that option is asking for upload of ID proof & card pic showing last 4 digits. I again talked to chat support & they told me that it is mandatory & without it I won’t be able to make any transactions on aliexpress.When I told the person that my friends are using aliexpress without all this then he told me that they too will need to do the same in future(which I didn’t believe btw).

So asking those who purchased during this 11/11 sale using newly created accounts or those who bought from aliexpress using newly created accounts in recent months,Is this normal or I just got unlucky.
