Hi, Any backpackers here? I would like to travel, experience something new on the summer breaks. As a student and solo traveler, I don’t have a big budget, maybe around 30K. Any travel tips/ suggestions?

Any suggestions for a place? Preferably safe areas and not very hot. Also, Internet connectivity is must, atleast for 2-3 hours per day. I don’t speak Hindi and haven’t spend much time in India as a adult. I appreciate suggetions/ advices.

@cyberboy enrol yourself for youth hostels first to get good budget stays, company to stay with and learn a lot from your fellow travellers there.

Search for which all locations they have the hostels in. Then try to jot down an itinerary so that you can spend few days in each location and move on to next location which probably isn’t too far, around 8 to 10 hours of travel at max.

If you really want to explore the place like a local and learn from them I would suggest planning around 5 to 7 days in each location.

Went on a trip to north India last November/ December and covered the following locations.
Dalhousie, Khajjiar, Dharamshala, McLeodganj, Shimla, Kufri and Mussoorie.

Travel by state transport between locations and public transport at the location to cut down on budget. Explore the best small eating joints in each location, most times these give you the best tasting food and local flavour.

Join “The Himalayan Club” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheHimalayanClu...) and “Travel Talk” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/3343691733...1/) groups on Facebook for some great guidance.

Interesting, I haven’t done much research on that hostel part. How will be the crowd in those hostels? I’m not sure if I have to live with Uber hippies who is always on cloud9, the regular ones in Goa. The rave scene might ruin the purpose of the trip as I’m trying to do an escape from drug abusers. I do like beers and wine and don’t mind people around me smoke weed or something occasionally.

I know I missed Ziro music festival, Is there similar musical festival happening soon? I would love to spend time on that kind of vibes. I’m leaning towards northeast India, like Shillong, Guwahati, Darjeeling, etc. But I don’t mind any place with natural beauty and happy crowd. Also, I would love to attend any music festival from low bpm till EDM. I can’t bear trance or something above.

Are you one of that biker kind of guys? I’m sure you enjoyed the trip. Consider me as a girl doing the first trip; I only have that kind of life exposure. BTW those FB groups are interesting, scrolling through the groups. thanks for suggestions.

i have seen, met n have been in company of many foreign international students who stay in india for more than 6 months n cover whole Indian tourist places. i bet they cover n have more idea abt indian tourist places then any other normal indian tourist. most of them usually come on college project or during college vacation. u can do all these all alone but to be on safer side have atleast one person alongside.

Hi, as a part of arranging funds for the trips, I’m trying to recover the money I lend to the friends. None of them can pay in full right now, but one guy gave me his CC and other guy gave me his Bajaj EMI card. If you have something to buy online, I can do it behalf of you for some discount. I assume those transactions can be converted into EMI. I made a new thread on trading category, Let me know if that is interesting for you, we can work on a win-win deal.

I went to Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia last year as solo backpacking.
Good experience. Low cost experience. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

Did you good cheap weed there? https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif #JK

Those countries are amazing, and I think affordable for Indians. But I doubt that will fit with a student budget.

How was your trip? Especially the crowd?

Don’t even prefer Thailand over Northern parts of India. Trust me, India has loads of excellent places to explore and compared to these places many foreign countries fall flat.

You will not regret spending your valuable 30K in exploring North India. Go for it!

Honestly, I couldn’t find a purpose for a solo trip to Thailand, might be good if we are in a gang. But @weed was doing back across Vietnam along with that, that will be hectic and sounds like medium difficult trek. I might consider that for next summer vacation, probably Nepal, Bhutan, etc.

For me, travel is more of meeting happiest people. Anything that I can afford from the list, above the India will be on my bucket list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Happiness_....

BTW I’m visiting Northeast India, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunjal Pradesh, I might visit WB too.
