Buying a laptop or 2 in 1 from USA
My relative is going to USA for business purpose. I want to buy laptop for me through him. I know there are some threads but they are a bit old and vague. Just tell me which is the best site for buying new tech.
Also can we get laptop deals from stores? Or buying online is the best bet?
I have checked some sites like newegg, office depot but didn’t found much.
TIA.

I think black Friday month is going on there so hoping for best deals everywhere. Is it good to buy form Amazon USA? Also what will happen if the product turns out to be defective?
He will stay for almost 2 weeks so I hope we get the time. And thank you for reply @ranjithsai01

Usually BB has offered good prices during non sale days. You can buy from amazon too if the prices are good and try ordering asap so that it can be checked asap and replaced if there is a need. Yes there might be some black friday deals so keep checking.
Also if the price difference is hardly noticeable (2-3k) and if the model is available in India buy it here during some sale days for warranty.

Amazon doesn’t usually have good offers unless its black friday or prime day
As @ranjithsai01 said bestbuy has good offers on laptops or 2 in 1’s during non-sale days too but its been a while since there’s a great deal from Bestbuy. Last time there were few great deals on Asus n Dell inspiron models
Watch out for deals on HP specte x2 or Hp elite x2 for 400$ (eBay)
Recently Suraface pro 4 Core M version was sold for 500$ (Newegg)
Adorama also has good deals on laptops via their website (Adorama.com) and eBay.com store
If he stays close to any Walmart stores, ask him to check one of them usually walmart has lots of clearance items in their stores be it laptops or mobiles (50% / 70% or even more)
even official Dell and HP stores offers steep discounts every now then
Dont purchase refurbished laptops, almost all major brands offer global warranty on new laptops.
If you are going to buy from bestbuy, first check if instore pickup is available at a store nearby your friends location. purchase online n pick it up offline

Most good points have been covered already. Do keep checking https://slickdea...et and http://www.deals2b...om for some deals.
Also, do keep in mind that most brands do not offer international warranty on laptops. Dell and Acer do provide international warranty if I am not wrong.
If you are looking for a mac then use this price guide for best deals across sites http://prices.appleinsid...om
As someone already pointed out, do consider warranty as well when you compare the price in India. If there is hardly any price difference then prefer getting one in India itself. The best time would be black friday and Christmas for great deals on laptops at other times you might not find such mind blowing deals.
Also, do note that BestBuy provides a price match, so in case you find a good deal from a reputed online/offline store then you can walk into a BestBuy store, show proof of that deal and they will happily match that price and bill you accordingly. Not sure if there are any further specific terms though. When I was in US there was a deal for Moto 360 first gen on google play store, me and my brother walked into a BestBuy store, showed the ad and got a price match immediately with no questions asked. This is a great option if you have no time to place an order online and wait for shipping.
Most of the brands do offer international warranty
HP offers global warranty for manufacturer refurbished Laptops too
Lenovo Offers global warranty for new laptops only
Asus also included + Dell and Acer
Some brick and mortar shops offer more discounts than online retailers. So, keep an eye and one online e-retailer that has been missed is www.newe...om
And my opinion differ that there would hardly be any price difference…I have seen some very good laptops for decent prices.
@Ezio Auditore bhai, somehow I don’t like the idea of buying laptop from abroad ’cos of warranty issues. You should go ahead only if the deal is really tempting.
With international warranty you might have to visit at least twice .
I bought my first toshiba lappy from japan and had to pay multiple visits to their noida center to get it repaired. It took around 20 days and four visits.
I refrained from buying another while I wan in US. Only bought RAM and HDD from bestbuy. During festive season you will get many good deals at offline stores as well. Do ask your friend to make few visits before buying. Online store also offer option to order and get items delivered at nearest store. Your friend may check this option as well.
However, I still instst buying laptop here in India with 2-3 years extended warranty. With my 2nd compaq and 3rd Toshiba lappy, I could just call customer support and get my lappy repaired at home without paying a visit. Now my compaq lappy is more than 3 years old and without warranty, is struggling.
Hope this helps.
PS: Just to mention from my experience of my own and office lappys, Toshiba laptops have inherent issue with their hinges which break down quite easily while compaq/HP lappys have inherent heating issue. Keep in mind while making a purchase.

Yes, the best deals on low-end laptops are available on Black Friday and the following Cyber Monday. Although you didn’t specify whether your relative will be there during these sales, your posts make it seem like that. So, yes, have him buy from a B&M store on Black Friday or order online on Cyber Monday.
As for which stores to buy from, Walmart (along with BestBuy trailing not far behind) usually had the most appealing deals for laptops and TVs back when I lived there. Don’t think the situation has changed much now. Rather than going to each retailer’s website individually, you should use a Black Friday deal aggregator site like the following: https://slickdeals.net/black...ay
As for customs, your relative is allowed to bring one laptop duty-free with him. If he is taking any laptop(s) from India with him to the US then ask him to get a “Export Certificate” from the customs at the departure terminal for duty-free re-import. Also, this formality will take at least 30 minutes extra so he should plan his airport arrival time accordingly.
As for what happens in case the laptop becomes defective after you import it, the answer depends on whether the laptop you buy comes with international warranty or not.
To add further. I see some crazy good deals but in very limited quantities for budget laptops during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, these are mostly not so easy to get either.
Apart from that, the general deals for budget laptops do not differ much from the pricing in India so do rethink if it’s worth the efforts to get it from US. Most times you can notice a considerable difference in price only for expensive and high end configuration laptops.
waiting for 90% off on macbooks
HP Envy M8
I got this one for my Windows use.
http://store.hp.com/us/en/mdp/Laptops/envy-x360...
Pros: Strong, well built.
More stylish than Dell
Touch screen interface is smooth and actually fun to use.
Battery is good.
Cons: Daylight visibility can be better.
Backlit keyboard not as good as my Macbook Pro.
But, it is a fairly powerful device and has looks that can even kill a Macbook.
P.S. Got it imported from US without warranty of course.

It has i7-6700 hq processor. It doesn’t have optical drive , but i guess i would have to live without it.
How does processor like i7-6500u or i7-7500u compares with it. Can you answer @getready?
check lenovousa site.you will see lot of offers.it offers international warranty also
@Ezio Auditore
Those are not meant to be compared
6700HQ is a Quadcore processor and 6500u/7500u are dual cores
Almost twice the performance

Thought so, sorry for my foolish question. Should have got the cores thing.
Cool man, thanks!
Also do I need to take care of customs or I can say that this laptop is for personal purpose?
