Help needed in buying SSD

ssd for 3500?? it wont be worth it cause ssd are pretty expensive and it would get 120gigs to 250 at this price and at least for me it is not enough storage space.SSd are generally used for fast speed and not for longevity /used to load windows so it can boot like in seconds and important application so it would work fast

i would recommend 1tb wd blue ..

It’s not right to say that SSDs don’t long last and mechanical drives last forever. It just depends on the use and maintenance of these drives.

@op Just get a new 120gb SSD for OS and buy a pendrive/external hard disk. If you have a dvd drive replace it with a hard drive caddy and put a mechanical drive in there if you really want those TBs of data on a laptop. You will see huge performance boost and you will never go back to using mechanical drives for OS. Beware SSDs are addictive and every other non-ssd machines you might use would frustrate you.

I have been waiting to ask this question for long. I want to buy an SSD and install it in place of my DVD drive, but the problem is my DVD drive is different than others. It has a latch attached to it’s rear side and can be removed easily without opening the laptop screws by just pushing a button on the lower side of the laptop and I have been unable to find a caddy with this feature. Anyone has any idea?

I don’t mind buying a 120 gig SSD.Is sandisk a reliable brand to look for?Do I need to go to a technician to install hard drive caddy?

Yes sandisk is reliable and I have been using 3 of them from 8-9 months. Also the speeds vary with the size of the SSD so please don’t be misled seeing speeds of higher capacity SSDs.

Removing your dvd drive just involves removing a screw on the back side and pulling the dvd drive out. But choosing the right caddy is very important and you can take your laptop to some physical store if you are not sure what to buy online. They would do it for you free of cost.

i have 530,535, 520, 320, 1500, 3500, 3510, 2500. most are pulled out. the seller riverstone is based delhi, the only down side is he never says the ISN number, while others make sure to send only the best piece in hand to me.

Unless you’re getting an SSHD or you need a boat load of storage, removing the DVD drive is a bad move move because 5400 rpm drives (the ones suitable for a lappy) are still pathetically slow.

OP search ebay for SSD’s in the price range of 3-4K & you’ll get many options, do not go for anything less than 240GB & look at seller feedback, ideally one with an option to return drive with (seller or manufacturer) warranty
