First of all, I know there are around 10 threads discussing about air conditioners. But I opened this thread for specific info on couple of ac models and info on manufacturer extended warranties. I am from kerala and I know the rains are already upon us and the summer heat is going away. There are some renovation work(painting and stuff) taking place in my home and decided to move the windows ac to another rarely used room and install a split one in one of the bedroom in the topfloor. It is a small room of about 10.5X11 sq ft. with around 9.5ft ceiling and SUN pouring down its mighty on its roof.AC will be used for 8-9 hours a day. So I decided to go with an inverter AC and I think 1ton is enough. Now the budget is maximum 45K. I have seen a lot of complaints about the inverter ACs from all the manufacturers. Even all the third party AC technicians I contacted saying the life expectancy of the inverter ac is less. They are saying when the normal ACs work perfectly for a decade, inverters fail in 2-3 years.

I was searching for a best deal on inverter ac. Since almost all the sites wont deliver large appliances like ACs to kerala, I decided to go for offline purchase. But I remembered infibeam used to ship large packets to our house. So I searched and found a good deal on infibeam 28K (with coupon) for an inverter ac, that too with copper condenser and whopping 11yrs compressor warranty – HAIER 1 Ton Inverter Split AC (HSU-13CNMW) – http://www.infibeam.com/Home_Appliances/haier-1... . I know this haier AC is pure chinese model and I remember seeing 8-10K per piece import price of haier ACs in zauba. But I am thinking, if haier could give me a 3 or4 years extended warranty (dont know if they are giving) on the pcb and other components, its a good deal. Any body using this model inverter AC? I would love to get some review on this.

I am open to all the other brands and budget is max 45K. But I am worried about the failure rate of inverter ACs. Do you guys know any inverter model comes with 5 yrs full warranty, I meant all the components including pcb. Am I seeing 5 yrs complete warranty logo on this lloyd model?(Edit: Indeed they are providing 5 yrs complete warranty – http://www.mylloyd.com/cms.php...20 .Now lloyd seems to be a sensible purchase than that Haier) LS13AI – http://www.mylloyd.com/product-description.php?... .Bijilibachao also listed this AC in their top efficient inverter AC list. Last year also we decided to install the split ac. At that time I decided on sharp inverter models seeing all those positive reviews and major electricity savings. But now I am shocked to see just negative reviews. Did their inverter models practically destroyed the sharp brand https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif ? Also daikin was in the priority list. Now there are a lot of complaints about daikin popping up. By reading from different forums, I came to know that the reputation of daikin took a hit after they started to manufacture/assemble in India. Still I like their FTKM/DTKM/ATKM AC models. ’cause unlike F/A/DTKH series, they can reduce the operating power to 220W after the preset cooling has achieved. Now thats really great. And its slightly above 45K ish. Also 1 ton inverter ac from GENERAL is also in my list. O General ASGG12JLCA – http://www.amazon.in/General-ASGG12JLCA-1-0-Inv.... Its around 42K.

So in short I am searching for
User info on manufacturer extended warranty from DAIKIN/O general/Lloyd/Haier or any other manufactuers
User reviews on HAIER 1 Ton Inverter Split AC (HSU-13CNMW)
User reviews on Daikin FTKM/DTKM/ATKM series inverter ACs
User reviews on O General 1 Ton Inverter AC ASGG12JLCA
Any recommendation of inverter AC from other manufacturers.

Basically need to know the longevity of these models and I dont wanna waste a premium to get savings in electricity and later spend a hefty amount on repairs. I may have to go with normal 5 star ACs if I cant confirm these models wont give trouble.

Tagging couple of dimers that I have seen engaging in the other AC related threads. @dharmanath481 @Spock @cybertechie .
@cybertechie bro, since you are a malayali, you must have some info on the offline dealers, service personals etc. Do you know any expert technicians in trivandrum who will give some info regarding the longevity of inverter ac from different manufacturers? Asking ’cause they must have a pretty good idea on the service provided by the manufacturers. Also please mention if there are any manufacturers who provide service directly through their own service centers in trivandrum. Do you have any recommendation on any specific dealers?

I thought I should create a separate thread and just ask about the Haier and lloyd ACs. Now I went into general AC stuff. I should have just created a post on those ongoing thread, should’t I?

as i see, your’s is a multi=part all comprehensive info gathering exercise with basic clarity on these below points and about the serviceability of products in Trivandrum, besides the confidence thaat the upfront payoff-to future savings matrix pays off

right ?

So in short I am searching for
User info on manufacturer extended warranty from DAIKIN/O general/Lloyd/Haier or any other manufactuers
User reviews on HAIER 1 Ton Inverter Split AC (HSU-13CNMW)
User reviews on Daikin FTKM/DTKM/ATKM series inverter ACs
User reviews on O General 1 Ton Inverter AC ASGG12JLCA
Any recommendation of inverter AC from other manufacturers.

this post is basically just a quick acko. of your and nothing else. i may not have a sharp recall or be in my senses at this hour.
hope that the grilled in BGLR cybertechie bhai gets to take a breather here.

1] off-late never enquired with any brand for an AMC or extended warranty so i do not have any concrete pointers of what the trend is or the cost/value pay-off is

2] as a brand, i am totally blank on Haier nor ever got the confidence to probe it. but i still would say that to think of it as ‘something Chinese’ might now help. My speech may be coloured from the bitterness of our 13 month old Daikins having gone bust wherever the OD was exposed to the sharp post noon sun (central India, 38 to 43 degree as per Met. Dept. way above in relative terms)

so my point is, now it isn’t about: Assembled in Thailand versus India or China. just look at the local support: howreliable is it at your location,
[the basics of evaluating the product itself on merit remain as it is, so Haier is your call, as per advice of others]

.
discard Zauba numbers or take them only as some pointers. these are not actuals or a reliable source for decision making

3] we have a few FTKE35GV1 and 2 normal Daikin 1 tonne . The service at our location is non existent and one of the biggest dealer has been assigned to do what they want on the service front. (which begins with him hiring teenagers or barely 20 kids in season and sending them to ‘service’ the units. service = Uncle ek baalti aur magga dei dou (a bucket full of water and mug and and a rag) and a cute wash/wipe job of 12-15 minutes on OD plus blower.

Like I said, these Japanese designed, Thailand assembled Inverter models went bust in top heat. the normal 3 star one whose OD was in a shaded area was fine.

  • do check my annotation with observations on inverter aircons

4] no idea on OG model you mentioned, sorry. but i dare say that Sharp and OG as a brand are worth a dekko. the adverse reviews on the latter notwithstanding.

in inverter ACs the PCB is the easiest and first point of defense to go bust, you got that right.

funny thing that the Hitachi Inverter fridge we have, has a sticker advertising; no stabiliser needed.

of-course an aircon works way differently, but to me it was a surprise when the technical guys and dealership owner were all persisting upon a good stabiliser being bought.

like you, i too spoke to guys locally and it transpires that yes, often PCBs can not take the vagaries of our unstable power distribution lines.
so do check/ probe/ ask brands directly when you are keen to understand what is covered in the so called 5-10-11 years warranty.

about condenser alloy or metal; i think the copper story is oversold.
a lot depends on the design, tubing dia and so many other factors including the ‘type of compressor’ and its size

ditto about the star ratings. [which incidently are now also given for inverter aircons]

inverter units are NOT designed for the best cooling or quick cooling and so can not be expected to be a child or a pets dream.
Usual cooling with saving over a long term to compensate for higher upfront costs are its USP.

there ARE other ways too, to get better costs-performance pay-off http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

45 grand IMO is a lavish budget and you can even think of a 15000BTU unit. [this 45K is the all inclusive final outgo, i hope]

check if @BliNdThOkO_10 has some pointers or research

@Puneri Dimer tagged and @Bombay Dimer tagged have been Daikin users for a while and might have something to share.

Daikin does have the newer FTC42 http://mp-int.com/documents/LineCa...df ones with about 1.2 tonnage (1400014500BTU)
which their technical people suggest as better (i speak to technical people only on such info gathering. not on sales staff)
http://mp-int.com/documents/LineCa...df

the government, the rating agencies and all this bijlibachao etcetera are all to be taken with a jar-full of salt in the ratings/ approvals they give.
the aircons ratings.. in reality, are comparable to the admins of some of the mismanaged forums on the internet.
do not take those ratings too seriously. neither are they too effective and anyway keep changing their mind ever so often (ratings are annual)

and yes, do keep Panasonic as a serious contender in your short-list at-least.

also; do not be so disheartened. i am personally happy if such things are bought via the usual retail channels in physical shops.

have you checked these two posts yet or not. if not , then do have a look >

a lot depends on the monitoring of the installation process and oft missed nuances of proper welding or the OD being installed as per guidlines at a suitable location.

Glad to know that you have decided to opt for environment friendly inverter aircons. As for the brand recommendations, do consider the brand which has decent service support in your area. I have burned my fingers by opting for an expensive LG refrigerator for Varkala home. Service of LG in Kerala is a bad joke. Unfortunately i’m not in a position to recommend any dealer or place in Trivandrum since i have spent most part of my life outside Kerala and my info about local dealers there is nil or very limited.

we have Sharp Aircon inverter model installed in my in-laws house in Chennai. Other than the regular service, Sharp unit has been performing great so far. I would have not have hesitated to recommend Sharp hadn’t it been for poor after sales service Sharp is famous for. their service is very poor in metro cities, i wouldn’t expect them to fare any better in Kerala.

Like @Spock bhai mentioned, you have a very decent budget. See if you can manage Daikin in your budget. Daikin has a well established service in at-least big cities. Chinese aircons are no good even in regular window AC category, let alone inverters.

BTW. i was in Kerala for a couple of days recently. Weather there was absolutely fantastic.

Hi @Spock bro, thanks for that detailed response. Indeed couple of ac technicians in my city told me to consider panasonic. But they were just saying about the IDU’s quality and stuff. Just the design element. I did read the @sheetalvarunyadav2223 post in that thread. In fact I almost read all the threads here in DD related to ac. But I failed to see any long term review on inverter AC. Yes, when it comes to normal star rated ACs we cant go wrong in selecting Daikin/hitachi/mitsubishi(heavy and electric)/general/carrier. But inverter ones are a different story. If something happens out of warranty, the hole that is going to happen in the pocket will be even bigger than the pocket itself. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif Thats why I am after extended warranty packages. And thats the reason why LLOYD and haier came in the picture. LLOYD does provide complete 5yrs warranty. Its an offer they are running and it will be extended till 30th june – http://www.mylloyd.com/cms.php...20 . Two of the technicians did recommend lloyd. But none of them could give me any review on the longevity of the inverter ACs. And when they heard my budget, they did mention to go for daikin/general.

Its such a shame that sharp failed to deliver on their promises. Last year I made up mind to purchase sharp inverter ACs. One of my friends and a relative purchased those and they have been just saying only good things about the AC. How good the features are and how efficient they are. Just 13 months later my friend’s AC died and the repair was about 8K I think. Just two months later, the sharp of my relative died. Dont know what happened to that one. The failure of sharp’s inverter line up is all over the internet. The circut board in the ODU is the one going kaput almost all the time. I suspect if there is any bugs or something getting inside the unit and causing all the havoc. Bro, take good care of your ODU.

And ya, the weather in here has improved a lot. April till mid may was really harsh. Wishing for a full monsoon.

if you are upto 30kms from coast you will be prone to gadget rusting. Especially a/c give a higher maintainance headache in coastal areas . So check local businesses on portals or take a bike and find a/c repair centres (a bit hard to find now a days) take a/c of the closest service centre company.
Almost all have interchangeable parts upto 75% so after warranty local person can support you. So best talk to them first.
Once you start using a/c you cannot slerp without it even for 1 night so plan failsafe in advance nothing else.

yes, I would also recommend to check nearest service center.
If you are buying a brand like Ogeneral – Bluestar, no need to worry about. They are best in quality and service.

Hi, its about 8-9hours. Thats the only reason I decided to consider inverter ACs. But the failure rate of these pushing me to go for a 5 star AC. Wish I can find couple of long time inverter AC users. I know that its only been like 4 or 5 years since people started to purchase these. Still a response from a user with 4 yr experience would give me a piece of mind.

So today I talked over the phone to one of the service center rep for the haier ac in my city. Damn, he is the most knowledgeable and kind person I talked to in the mater of air conditioning. All the other technicians I talked to dint have this much info regarding AC. I got the number from online chat in the haier website. I have been doing this to know the service availability. I rang the mobile, but he dint pick up. Just 5 mins later he called me back and talked for about an hour. Ya you read it right, an hour. All the other service personals cut me off in under 15 mins. Below are his words.

“Haier is a good company for AC. Their failure rate is very little in trivandrum. But those are normal star rated ones that I installed. Haier units are directly imported from china. As a mater of fact a lot of ACs from other manufacturers are made and assembled in the same factory in china. Haier, videocon etc.. But the difference happen in the final quality check. (Now when I said the word DAIKIN, in a heart beat he said ) NO. Failure rate of daikin in our city is like 50%. He thinks most of the daikin units he had seen are inverter series. PCB repairing cost is like 10K+.In our humid environment, small bugs will enter the ODU and damages the PCB ( Now he started to talk about other manufacturers ). GENERAL AC is good. LLOYD got good ACs and failure rate is less in trivandrum, but the service in our city is sketchy. ( So he advised to push LLOYD down my list. Though the 5 yr full warranty of Lloyd still make me wanna keep in my list ). Mitsubishi Heavy industry is good, but electric is not that good. Trane also can be considered. But service and parts availability is unknown. ( He went on and talked about the importance of copper condenser and the need of their gold or blue fin coatings ) If inverter AC is considered, be sure to opt for warranty extension package or AMC packs. All the AC manufacturers provide extended warranty or AMC packs to the customers through the authorized service personal who install the AC. For Haier, two year warranty extension will cost about 3.5-4K. Also carrier is good AC and failure rate in trivandrum is very less. Sharp may be already dead or in its final breathe. ( Though he doesn’t know if the sharp’s inverter AC failure caused this )”

I was like https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif , is he really a service rep of HAIER AC. And yes, when I asked him, he is the one who will come and fit the haier AC if I purchase the AC online or from the dealer. But the problem is that, even if I buy that Haier inverter AC for 28K. Its gonna cost me like 4 or 5K to get two more additional warranty. I think videocon and voltas providing full 5 year warranty for all the functional parts. I will go to couple of stores this week and ask around various offers running for the extended warranty and AMC packs. I will not take an inverter AC without the PCB gets protection for atleast three years. Also he advised me not to go with the AC technicians provided by the offline dealer for installation. Instead contact the manufacturer and ask them to fit the AC. All the manufacturers should hire people like these for doing their service. These type of reps will make a mercedes or audi buyer to purchase tata nano https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is considered as the premium brand AC in India. If their inverter AC’s PCB is also failing in Indian condition, then who knows what the other manufacturers could bring into the market. Below is a comment I saw from an user in another forum.

I purchased Mitsubishi(Heavy Ind) Inverter AC SRK 18YL-S in June 2014 in Surat-India. Suddenly in August 2015, after 13 months, AC stop working. I handed over the matter to Surat authorised service center. They visited several times, took the inside unit and outside unit PCB & did lot of research, finally after 45 days of long service time, declared that outer unit PCB is not working hence you need to pay 14000 rupees for new PCB.
The irony is that i bought AC in 50,000 rupees and they are asking for 14,000 rupees for repairing charges which is 30 % cost !!! Can you think any AC give you such trouble !
My clear view is
1) Very very poor service : Service is too lethargic, they never call you. Every time you have to follow up. They don’t have proper person to repair the Ac. My AC took almost 45 days to repair & still I am waiting to start. They just gave me discount on PCB to 10700 rupees. For that I called their Delhi Office(International Aircon) Mr. Shailendra to resolve the matter. Local service center is useless, you have to call higher authority to resolve the matter.
2) Product is having very poor quality. Can you think, after paying 50000 rupees, after 13 months, 10700 rupees is the repairing cost !! My Sharp AC is working since last 6 years at home without any problem.
3) All the people in service center looks like bunch of Monkey. They never listen, never see and never speck to customer unless and until you shout.
My recommendation : Don’t buy Mitsubishi(heavy Ind) Inverter AC.

As my search going forward my confusion rising exponentially. Irrespective of the previous negative feedback, I am thinking about going with mitsubishi heavy industries AC – Mitsubishi 1 Ton SRK13YL-S inverter model. Main reason is that the authorized dealer cum service for the MHI ACs in my city gave me a good deal. He offered that AC for Rs. 44900 which includes v-guard stabilizer and 3m copper pipe. How I came to know about this dealer is another story.I tried a lot to find service center for MHI AC in my city and failed. Then I was searching for the authorized service center for panasonic and one of my friend gave me this dealer’s contact info. But it turns out they stopped supporting panasonic. To my surprise, they are the authorised dealer and service team of MHI in trivandrum. According to the manager, he has been installing and servicing ACs for 8 years and they are installing ACs in bulk to big stores in my city. According to him, they already installed 4000+ ACs. Not just the ACs from Mitsubishi, but from LG, panasonic etc. He recommended me to take mitsubishi. He said, quality of panasonic ac has gone down, same with daikin and LG’s aluminum models are giving constant problems. It was really hard to confirm if they are authorized from MHI. Mitsubishi heavy doesn’t have a proper website with all the contact info of local support.

IAPL group (International AirCon Private Limited) got some alliance with mitsubishi heavy and they are the ones doing all the sales and service in India. They are giving service via 3rd party dealers and support teams. Below are all the contact info I have collected. Could be useful for someone. I dont know if all the informations are accurate. Please correct me if they are wrong.

Snapdeal is selling it cheaper : http://www.snapdeal.com/product/haier-1-ton-inv...

But here the 11 year warranty is not mentioned. I believe its a typo error on Infibeam. 11 year warranty is practically not possible.

At present, I have all 3 inverter AC at home – Mitsubishi Heavy, Daikin and O General.

Daikin is 3 years old and doesn’t cool as much. Its cooling was never good enough to begin with. We purchased Mitsubishi and O General few days back only and i don’t have enough data to comment about them.
