bro he definitely made a fool out of you, it will only work on 4g handsets because Jio doesn’t have license for 2g & 3g spectrum!!

4G will run in 4G obviously.
common sense
4g sim will work in 3g handsets also… So even if ur phone doesnt support 4g, u cn still use 3g….however not sure how rjio will offer 3g i read article asking to install jio join to convert 3g calls to 4g…can anyone confirm how we cn use 3g on jio

Jio WILL NOT work with 3G/2G handset. It is a pure LTE service. It requires 4G enabled handset working on Band 3/5/40. For making calls, phone should either have VoLTE function or JioJoin app needs to be installed.

so if i install jiojoin on 3g handset cn i make calls n surf net

NO. Handset must be LTE 4G.

Jio must integrate RGSM with itself. Improve their network coverage by installing more towers and fall back on 2g and 3g for non LTE handsets. Otherwise they won’t succeed in India as LTE only operator.

afaik, falling back to 3g will cause a pain for them, heard that the tower and network setup is very different from 2g to 3g and from 3g to 4g , but the change from 2g to 4g is slightly less costly as compared (few of my friends were working with Jio field team for their network planning and setup a year back).
This is one reason why all India 3g was not in their priority list as the returns they had projected were less and contributing to that the cost of 3g packs.

but why ?

as far as i could understand that mifi device would emit wifi signals and not lte
so it should be possible to make calls using a 3g phone as well

You mean to say that you can make free calls using JioJoin installed on any android device to make free calls while it is connected to a JioFi device? https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif
I don’t think so. You can connect upto 5 devices minimum if I’m not wrong. You think Ambanis are so stupid to allow free calls for the entire family through a single connection? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

@getready Is this even possible? https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif

Huh! So, we are talking about free calls for an entire family here? Great. None can beat our Ishan bhai in thinking crooked. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

But when I installed the app on my Lenovo A2010, it automatically detected the SIM and registered it. How can this be done over WiFi connections? Can the same number be registered with multiple devices? https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif

The question was whether voice call and data would work on 3G/2G handset with jioJoin. Since the thread is for SIM without device, the assumption is that the SIM would be put inside that handset only. If someone is willing to pay and purchase a separate 4G wifi device and put the SIM in that device then obviously any handset that supports wifi would get data and with additional jiojoin also get voice call. But in that case, the requirement is 4G wifi device + 3G/2G handset and not just 3G/2G handset.
