New Delhi: Telecom operator Reliance Communications from next week onwards will start offering 4G service using Reliance Jio network to its CDMA customers in select circles at a starting price of Rs. 93 per 10 gigabytes.

“RCom has written to the Department of Telecom, informing (the department) that it will be using Reliance Jio Infocomm 4G network to provide 4G data service to its CDMA customers from next week. Only those CDMA customers who opted for the upgrade will get the service,” an official source told PTI.

Of the 8 million RCom’s CDMA customers, over 90 per cent have opted for the offered upgrade to 4G services, the data shared by the company with DoT showed.

RCom will provide 10 GB of 4G data at the starting price of Rs. 93, which is sharply lower by about 94 per cent than that of its competitors offering 4G service. In most circles, the rates will vary between Rs. 93 and Rs. 97 per 10 GB, as per the rate published on the RCom website.

According to the letter to DoT, RCom will launch 4G data service in 12 circles — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, UP East and West, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

By mid-July, the company will expand service to six more circles — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan — but only after DoT’s approval.

The company has plans to offer 4G service using Reliance Jio data network on a pan-India basis by mid-August.

RCom has liberalised its 850 MHz band spectrum in 20 circles by paying over Rs. 6,600 crore and put in place spectrum trading and sharing agreements with Reliance Jio in most telecom circles.

In the other two circles, RCom had purchased liberalised spectrum in the 850 MHz band through auction in March 2015.

A company holding liberalised spectrum can go for any kind of technology to offer mobile service to its customers.

Older CDMA handsets of RCom customers will not work on the new network as it is being upgraded to 4G. RCom will phase out CDMA technology over the next couple of months, the source said.

Hope this is not a one time offer. Even if its is so, most probably the regular tariff would be very close to this one time plan(May be like Rs110-120/10GB)

I don’t think that will happen in near term, as in start there will be less 4G consumers, so to sustain the business they will charge some premium for maintaining profitability or minimal losses. They already have 1 lakh employees and other overheads which are impossible to e recovered even in next 10 years https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cool.gif
So don’t expect damn low pricing at initial stage, it would be around Rs.250-300 for 4-5 GB https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif
They claimed damn cheap pricing like Rs.10/GB only to project market leadership in coming days so to attract huge investment or sustain the investment from existing investors. Nothing more than that…..

Still a big relief for users like me who has to pay around Rs.150-200/GB of 3G data.

RCOM CDMA upgraded to Reliancd 2G, its been a month no 4G signal yet
no credit of 10gb too. Most of the times, signal less while indoors

And this is a one time 4G upgrade offer
NDTV misguiding people by posting very old offer as something new https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

These days news media is too busy making money through paid news to bother about cross checking details. The so called 93/97 rate is the value of the migration voucher charged initially from CDMA prepaid customers. Its one time cost and the 10 GB offer is also one time offer.
