then too you are appreciating the deal means it is not such a bad thing, right https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif ??

hasn’t this been out in the market for over an year now ? so considering that
the form factor is good; the dimensions i mean.

and only an idiot will pay anything over 10000INR for this.
[if in the U.S. of अ it can sell for under 8400INR equivalent then it makes no sense for sellers to price it 12000-13000INR here.
considering that Seagate support easily help create authorisations for request to shift warranty region.]

one can easily get the same much under its listed 125USD price by getting Amazon credits under offer or at a discount.

@ram kapoor thank you for mentioning flipkart.com/ps/ACCDWDXUDKAUWMU7 but note that

A] it is STDT4000300 and not STDR4000300
B] neither is it portal fulfilled nor is it free shipping so the 50INR too needs to be considered.

nonetheless both of you shared it for good of others (and of self https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif ) so thank you.

Does anyone have an idea on the warranty for this model.
The last thing I want is a 1 year warranty for a 4TB disk.

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet

From my understanding, the 4TB’s have a higher failure rate. Not sure where I read it but have it as a mental note till im proven wrong / update my understanding.

its portable HDD laptop 2.5" form factor
It doesn’t require power adapter to work
Its thickness 21 mm
Weight 240gm
It has single 4TB HDD of 15mm unlike other models which have two 2 TB HDD .
Hope this would be useful to make your decision..

weight of the freshly formatted and otherwise empty one is about 243-247 grams and once you fill it up to over 3 tera, then it weighs over 800grams <a href=“http://cdn1.desidi...omhttps://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor..." alt=“redface” border=“0”/>"><img src=“http://cdn1.desidi...omhttps://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor..." alt=“redface” border=“0”/>">

and if you do not defrag it regularly then the weight distribution is lopsided and the drive might tilt towards the side which has more data.

Source: I am soooo intallyjant .

the weight is ‘about’ 245grams [the AMZ dot com listing calls it about 8.6 ounces and the Seagate site specs mention ‘typical’ ¿ weight as 247 grams > http://www.seagate.com/www-content/datasheets/p... ]

over the years, i started taking the declared MTBF numbers with a pinch of salt,
while also looking at the average annual failure rate (AFR) that come up in actual testing or performance reviews.
Having majorly used Seagate or Hitachi for personal as also professional use, i found Seagate’s Barracuda line to be good. For more than a decade of using the 7200rpm and even 10000rpm magnetic drives, i have rather come to settle for 5400rpm or under 6000rpm ones for critical data.

typically, just like in air travel; the failure patterns of these higher capacity drives too follow a bathtub curve (so to speak).
most failure occurs earlier on in life (possibly also due to manufacturing defects) or right towards the end of its useful life. stable phase of performance in between.

You might find this realistic review blog by Backblaze helpful. They must be having over 80000 terabytes (just under 80 petabyte) from various manufacturers/brands and different models within the brand.

edit: the 2014 post http://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliab... though still a bit out of date in 2016, has many insights

expectedly (for me) they speak of Hitachi faring better on some aspects.
although Seagate still rules when it comes to economical price-performance ratio, as visible in them acquiring more Seagates than the other make.

Do note that now Hitachi does NOT make/own the drives and in-fact the drive business had been palmed off (WD, Toshiba) and HGST (as they like to call themselves) is the new entity now. So do not rely on branding of Hitachi, it might well be a WD or a Toshiba (depending on form factor).

Best in the world (yes in the world) with minimal price change is : STDA4000300
speeds – up to 220MB/s. The highest capacity 2.5-inch portable hard drive

Lol. Yep you are right 5400RPM are a lot more solid vs 7200RPM. I use 4×1TB on Raid 1 for NAS. No Segates are horrible.
