@soubhiknaskar2 consider adding more details in your topic title for people to take notice.
details like its price or that it is a USB 3 model would help people and you (to get attention).

the prices have tumbled on Flipkart by 150-200INR over a period now for this model.

Prices in near-by markets in SE-Asia are similar http://www.lmall.my/toshiba-hdd-ext-2tb-canvio-...

you need to mute the audio on wherever you heard that.

it is true that the quality conscious market going down has resulted in the low-cost makers from other regions take prominence while the Fujitsu’s or Toshiba’s failed to get traction for their ‘premium’ offerings.

your understanding may be right to the extent it pertains to some of the CDIT product lines.

after the (internal) double investigation that brought to fore the accounting scandal in its medical unit, the Japanese major has gradually consolidated its resources on B2B businesses [like (nuclear) power, infrastructure); while withdrawing from a lot of B2C businesses. [where they just could not let the accumulated losses bloat while the Taiwanese, Chinese makers pushed Toshiba, Fujutsu, National (Panasonic) to the fringes.]

Yes, they sold off that troublesome medical unit (not India related) to Canon.
the big daddies of Plasma TV’s like Fujitsu, Toshiba (and i think National too) exited the business.
in-fact Toshiba completely stopped and exited from TV manufacture and sale a few years back, including in India now.

Recently, they let Midea Group acquire the rights to the brand name for forty years http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2016_03/pr...
so do not be surprised if (for consumer goods) Sharp or Toshiba let someone like Videocon get the brand rights. [Dhoots can be awarded the medal for practically killing Kelvinator (Electrolux Kelvinator).]

@MayankG101 , although Toshiba also exited or thought of exiting from the B2C laptops and PC market
i think for the time being it is continuing in the home (Jp) and U.S. markets.

you are right about home appliances and sale of B2C laptops or computers.
http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Toshi...
they’ll still infuse monies into their B2B offerings though, so you might still see Toshiba Portégé and such laptops getting sold and supported by them.

otherwise, their focus will remain (nuclear) energy and infrastructure.
