Yes. I am now chilled.. Hotness gone
Hello Everyone,
Was going to create one thread for the same but will update it here itself.
We had noticed that as per our old calculation once the channel became the hottest and went inactive for few days, the channel would still remain on top of the chart.
To give a fair chance to all the channel owners, we will now be calculating hotness of all the channels as per their activity of last 30 days only.
The hottest channel will be the one sharing fastest and the maximum deals in the last 30 days.

So the hotness parameter showing hotness of last 30 days only

I think its not a bug.. they might be just showing hotness of current period..
but if thats the criteria.. then add another option named “Total hotness”
+1 @bumblefoot

Good move. Many new channel operators expressed their dissatisfaction with me about the earlier rating system, which was unintentionally favorable to older channel operators. This new system is a lot more fairer and transparent.
One suggestion: For the uninitiated subscribers, please do clarify somewhere on the channel hotness page that the ratings reflect the channel performance during the last 30 days.

Means we can add any deal even not worth fastest to increase channel alert hotness?
Like “10% off on Dominos” added to channel within 30 seconds

So the nature of deals that was considered for channel hotness calculation earlier does not change. The only thing that changes is that out of the entire set of deals considered earlier, only those deals would be considered which are posted in the last 30 days.

Yes, that’s been an unfortunate shortcoming with the channel hotness system since the beginning. Many channel operators went crazy and just cared to be the first one to send an alert when this system was introduced. A few still do and I have noticed some change their stance later on. I was away (from DD) during the early days when this system was introduced. But I did notice this shortcoming and even commented about it when I rejoined the scene. See: https://www.desidime.com/forums/hot-deals-online...
With that said, AFAIK, a channel operator who is the first to send an alert for a deal which later becomes FPD does get double “hotness” points. But, obviously, this parameter alone is not enough to distinguish quality conscious operators from the rest who care only about being the first. So you did raise a good point which @admin should consider for future improvements.
Perhaps deducting the hotness points if a certain percentage of deals added to channel within a week do not become FPD would be a decent solution. But then what will happen to my “info” alerts? CC @anirudh88a

@admin @bumblefoot consider adding a “total hotness tab” for channels otherwise how can we get to know the gross efforts put by any individual in the entire time span..
