As per the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the central government is working on One Digital ID that Links Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, and more. This new ID is termed ‘Federated Digital Identities’ and will be an all-in-one identity for an individual. It is expected to have a unique number just like the Aadhar Card.

You will be able to use any of the PAN, Aadhar, Passport, DL, and more at a given time for a particular purpose with this new unique ID. Also, it will store all the Central and State-related ID data. Moreover, you can use it for KYC or eKYC for instant processing.

On the other hand, there are risks of data leaks due to ‘umbrella identity’. India Enterprise Architecture 2.0 (IndEA) will be used to make this process come true. IndEA came in 2017 for combining IT developments with the government’s business ideas. Its 2.0 version helps public and private companies to develop IT architecture for their customers.

The government is expected to come up with the next update/announcement on 27th February 2022 so it will be interesting to see how this new unique ID will be carried forward. Also, a question remains that will it be accepted well based on its usage & requirement? What do you think about this move? Feel free to share your views below.

Extra junk number to remember.
Even after a decade of launching, still there are people with no aadhaar and many duplicate aadhaar. This new id will take decades to reach it’s full ground level implementation, By then new government will come up with new scheme.
IMO it’s better to improve existing aadhaar security and it’s further integration with pre existing IDs, academic and medical certificates.

There is alot of issues with existing Aadhar still. Digital identity is helpful , however unless it cannot reach to rural level with good level of security to create trust. India not going to reep benefits soon. It just seems like developers creating new projects to spin off money from Government of India, while existing infrastructure is very fragile.

There are already so many IDs and Licenses in India. This will add to the list of existing ones. Instead, Gov’t can choose one from among the existing IDs and make it an All-Purpose ID, with which other documents and IDs can be linked. Aadhaar can serve the purpose for this.

the problem is liability, if leak happens, govt is never responsible for anything, even if it is from govt departments.

one id leakage, leaks all linked. uk and others backed out of such bs, and we are moving in.. 😕

This way too much the gov is asking for. Aadhar itself was wrong and now this. There are already enough mechanisms in place to govern. Those lazy cowards who elected them are a curse on the country

A single ID will help the govt to easily snoop on its citizens… That is the real masterstroke of this data hiding govt….. Get every data of the citizens while hide or fudge it’s own data so that it becomes much harder to ask any meaningful question in the absence of govt data…

You know why there is no leak from Google, it’s different user level access for people on different jobs in company. Nobody has full access to entire company data but here government employees uses Gmail and give complete access to some random newly appointed dude sitting in a village. Don’t expect anything new from this also this could be another way to get rid of anonymous voting. Now they will exactly know who voted for them which can affect how people gets benefits.

and then to link that number another id.

I think now they have finished with Aadhaar thing, so for livelihood another project started.

ready to make crowds at centers and then after getting number keep on linking it with everything.

On one hand they have everything linked with aadhaar or mobile number already e.g. your foreign travel details, property purchase, PF, bank account number, vehicle number, pollution certificate, RC number, vehicle insurance etc already reflecting at income tax website / umang app/ Digilocker/ m-parivahan etc.. Then what is the need of this another digital ID.. I assume the purpose of aadhaar was this one only.. Little more effort at aadhaar level and they are done… Why they want to waste billions of hard earned money over this new project?

Instead of this first implement land/property card, investment card. Digitalisation should happen to ease country people works. This things can be done later, to curb corruption and affordable things at market price those 2 cards must be done. Instead of that we do all things.
