Swiggy has introduced 'Platform Fees' for food delivery via restaurants. This fee will be applicable on every food order irrespective of any Swiggy coupon, order value, etc. Thus, it is compulsory to pay if you want the food delivery.

Swiggy Platform Fee was 1st started in Bangalore and Hyderabad, and now in many major cities of India. The reasons for this move is to increase revenue as food delivery apps are facing a hard time in terms of making money in the market. Zomato also faces this issue, but currently haven't levied such an extra price.

The Swiggy Platform Fee is fixed at ₹2/order irrespective of any other order related terms. This will also be applicable to Swiggy One users. Swiggy Instamart users will not have to pay for it.

Swiggy co-founder Sriharsha Majesty said :-

"Swiggy was no exception…the growth rate for food delivery has slowed down versus our projections. While our cash reserves allow us to be fundamentally well positioned to weather harsh circumstances, we cannot make this a crutch and must continue identifying efficiencies to secure our long-term"

Swiggy reportedly delivers 1.5M orders a day which means they will generate ₹30 Lakhs/day via this new Swiggy Platform Fee! Seems like Zomato may also follow looking at the returns. However, customer experience is what these companies will be monitoring going ahead.

Most outside food is poisonous to the health. Humble daal & rice cooked at home tastes much better. If you take shortcuts by ordering food online, remember you will have to pay back by means of cancer and other diseases after a decade of consuming these poisons.

My nearby shop sells samosa for 10rs, On swiggy price 2 for 45... min order for free delivery 149. So if I order 10 samosas using swiggy I end up paying approx 225+12 delivery charges -40% discount... which makes it approx 237-80rs ie approx 157 BTW being a lazy ass I still order through swiggy... also if you add petrol prices and time saved it's still looks a good deal flushed

In our locality, the prices of items are also marked as higher rate. When I asked restuarants, they told that Zomato and Swiggy did that. They don't do that.

This is actually incorrect. Restaurants can set their own prices for each food item being listed on Swiggy/Zomato. But they will also have to pay a % commission (can range between 10 to 25% depending on various factors) to Swiggy/Zomato for each order being placed via these online platforms. So restaurants themselves jack up their food product prices in Swiggy/Zomato, in order to compensate themselves for the hefty commissions charged by these delivery platforms.

Swiggy takes 800 for 3 month super membership bundled  with pathetic support, Switched to zomato which offers for 299 and on time delivery protection.

Aren't they earning extra money by increasing the actual amount of the food item and even getting 50% off is still higher than what the restaurant charges. I'm not even including packaging, extra swiggy tax fees and delivery charges.

I stopped ordering bcz of their malpractice.

The same people said I would not order anything from Flipkart when they introduced a convenience fee on mobiles.

What happened now is that from 19 it increased to 45.

Some people just create noise, just like my friend, whose general order value is 300. Now he is crying for Rs. 2, even though it is not charged in Mumbai.

Fun fact: My friend used to pay 50 delivery charges at least once a week. I was the one who conceived of him taking membership, and now he is crying for Rs 2.

In short, people are not crying about paying Rs. 2 but becoming curious about how Swiggy can earn 30 L in a day.

If they correct the menu price, reasonable delivery charge. Happy to pay platform charge even rs 10. But, they will not correct anything and for sure will increase platform charge later like gov did with us on name of service tax.

Why not take 2% of the order value as platform fees and give restro menu at stock prices rather than jacking them up? Who are they fooling? Making a joke on themselves.
