We’re only a few weeks away from the start of the new year, and several of the smartphones that arrived this autumn have already made it onto our list of the best smartphones of the year. The Google Pixel 6 and Apple iPhone 13 were released in 2021, but we’re looking forward to seeing what 2022 has in store for smartphone debuts.

In 2022, there’s already a lot to look forward to, including new budget-friendly phones from Samsung and Apple, which might debut in the first part of the year. Later this year, a large new version of the basic iPhone and a Samsung phone that might feel like a true successor to the Galaxy Note are both expected. Looking forward to all the Smartphones debuting this coming year, we surely will glue our eyes to e-com giants like Amazon and Flipkart for any new leaks

Based on rumours and speculations that have surfaced so far, here are the smartphones we’re most excited about in 2022.

Apple iPhone SE 3

Next year, the Cupertino-based iPhone company is expected to release the third generation of the iPhone SE 3. The Apple iPhone SE 3 is aimed towards aspirational areas like India, to convert Android users to iOS.

The iPhone SE 3 is expected to include the same 4.7-inch Retina display, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage as the iPhone SE 2. The SE 3 will be powered by the A15 Bionic processor, which is presently utilised in the iPhone 13 series. The iPhone SE 3 might include a 12MP back camera and a 7MP front camera for selfies.

The next-generation iPhone SE might also be the first to have Face ID. Because the actual home button is still present on the 2020 iPhone SE and the 2016 iPhone SE, both have Touch ID.

Apple iPhone 14

The annual launch event keeps the IT industry on its toes. As soon as Apple released the Series 13 iPhones, the tech industry began guessing about the iPhone 14. The iOS 16 operating system and the A16 Bionic processor will be available on the Apple iPhone 14. Apple is expected to experiment with the display of the iPhone 14 by introducing a 120Hz refresh rate and removing the notch.

The camera, design, and screen size options are expected to be the most significant enhancements in next year’s flagship iPhone. But it’s the rumoured iPhone 14 Max, which is thought to be a super-sized version of Apple’s conventional next-gen iPhone, that has us most thrilled.

As per rumours, Apple will drop the iPhone Mini in favour of a new 6.7-inch iPhone next year. That means there might be two 6.1-inch models (the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro) and two 6.7-inch variants in the iPhone 14 range (the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max).

The iPhone 14 series is expected to be released in September, as is customary for Apple’s big smartphone announcements.

OnePlus 10 Pro

OnePlus created a reputation for itself by selling phones with hardware capabilities comparable to those of Samsung at a lower cost. The OnePlus 9 Pro, which was called “the best phone OnePlus has ever created,” has gained popularity in recent months.

If reports are to be believed, the same can be said about the OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10 Pro, which is likely to include the same camera improvements. The camera system looks to have three lenses, similar to the OnePlus 9 Pro, but with a new layout that more closely mimics the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra’s quadruple-lens camera design.

The OnePlus 10 series is expected to have a triple camera arrangement with a 50MP primary lens and additional lenses. It will be fascinating to see whether the OnePlus 10 series maintains the Hasselblad partnership. These phones are believed to come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets, which were just revealed. The OnePlus 10 series might arrive in three flavours, starting with an 8GB model.

Google Pixel 6a

After announcing the Google Pixel 6, one would assume the company would take a break before considering another device. No, that isn’t the case. There have already been leaks about a Google Pixel 6a, which is great news for us in India, especially since Google’s last gadget launched here a while ago.

Of course, we don’t have much information about the Google Pixel 6a just yet, but it appears that the handset will use the Pixel 6’s design language in its entirety. The Pixel 6a is said to include an 11MP camera and an 8MP front camera, as it is a camera-focused smartphone. The Google Pixel 6a might get a 6GB RAM variant that runs on vanilla Android 12. Google may update the appearance of the Pixel 6a to a more premium finish rather than the plastic utilised in earlier generations of smartphones.

There’s no word on when the Google Pixel 6a will be revealed or sold, but the Google Pixel 5a was announced in August 2021, so it might take a while, especially since the Pixel 4a was introduced in August 2020.

Oppo Find N

In the year 2022, the foldable smartphone category appears to be improving. With Samsung as the sole commercial contender, Oppo, the Chinese giant, is expected to challenge it with its first foldable smartphone, the Find N. Oppo Find N boasts three screens, one on the front, two inner panels that join with a hinge, giving you the impression of an expanding and large display.

The Oppo Find N comes with a Snapdragon 888 processor and 6GB of RAM. Overall, the foldable smartphone has five cameras: three on the back panel and two for selfies. The first selfie lens is active when the device is folded, and the second emerges when you open it.

Samsung Galaxy S22

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is a worthy option for Galaxy Note lovers, thanks to its large screen and compatibility with the S-Pen. However, in comparison to the Note’s capability, the S-Pen experience felt a little half-baked. For starters, the S21 Ultra does not include an S-Pen in the package, there is no slot built into the phone to store it, and the S-Pen does not support Bluetooth or gestures.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series of smartphones, which includes the S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra, is set to debut in January 2022, with sizes ranging from 6-inches to 6.81-inches. The main camera on the Ultra will be 108MP with 12x optical zoom, while the lesser phones will have a 50MP main camera. The Exynos 2200 with AMD GPU may also be available for these devices.

Xiaomi 12

Xiaomi 12 is in the works and is set to ship in the first quarter, after Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series. Xiaomi is expected to debut three smartphone models in the Xiaomi 12 series: the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The Mi 11 smartphone series will be replaced by this one. This new flagship phone will be unveiled in China on December 28th, with rumours of a 12 Pro and 12 Ultra as well. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, according to reports.

Since Xiaomi debuted the Mi 11 Ultra in India, we expect a few Xiaomi 12 models to arrive in the country as well. Information regarding the smartphone has emerged, the most intriguing of which is that it will be powered by Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon CPU.

Technologies that will be prevalent in the Year 2022

Assisting technologies such as 5G will make noise in the Year 2022, even if no one knows when it will arrive. In the year 2022, the metaverse will become increasingly popular, and smartphones will be prepared to handle it.

The Moto G52 looks very interesting.

- OLED display with 90 hz refresh rate and 360 hz touch sampling rate with DCI-P3 color gamut and low blue light emission and motion reduction certification. 402 ppi.

- Decent set of cameras. 50+8+2 front and 16mp rear.

- 5000 mah battery with 33w fast charging.

- Lightweight at 169g.

- Dual stereo speakers.

- IP rating for splash resistance.

- Slim bezels and chin.

- Stock Android 12 out of the box without any bloatware or ads. Promised upgrade to Android 13 with 3 years of security patches.

- Thinkshield security (equivalent to Samsung Knox)

- NFC, expandable memory and career aggregation support.

The only downside seems to be no 5G and a weak processor (SD680), but it should not matter in day to day tasks atleast unless you are an intense gamer.

Price will be revealed tomorrow, should not exceed 15k in my opinion.

Seriously thinking of taking the plunge after a long wait. Was

Was considering Samsung S21 Plus (Rs.57,000) vs Samsung S20 FE 5G (Rs.34,000) all this while but this Moto looks more than decent to run for the next couple of years.
