I’ve bought a laptop in US . Can i tell my relatives there to mark it as a gift and send it via DHL / FEDEX .? Will it fetch any import duty / custom then also ?

As the price of the Laptop will be more than Rs. 10000, it will surely be taxed, even if marked as GIFT.

usually if they see a bill or an invoice of less than 200$ , they don’t charge a single buck.
i imported iphone 5 on its launch. didn’t pay a single duty just cause the billed amount was only 200$.

Yes, you should be able to use any of the cards. Axis Debit card might not work on few stores but ICICI credit card works everywhere.
Since I havn’t ordered through hopshopgo offer, don’t know the fine prints of this offer. Somebody, who has availed this offer, can tell you better.

How to shop on a US store:
1. Register on hopshopgo or any other package forwarding website and they’ll provide you a US address.
2. Visit your favorite US eStore and place the order by giving above shipping address.
3. Once the package_forwarding_company receives your order, they will send you and email and list the item on your account. You need to pay their charges and they will ship it to your address.

Points to note:
1. Always buy branded stuff. So that you’ll get quality item. If it’s non-branded, you can’t be sure abt its quality.
2. Return back would be very expensive. you need to send that item to US (bear the shipping cost) and then the package_frwd will take some additional processing fees.
3. Since you are paying with Indian card, there would be currency conversion charges + service tax etc. So you would be charged 4% additional to the cost of item.

Custom duty charges for mobile phone is around 2% only. However, it’s high for tablet pc.
Suggest you to first calculate the approx. custom duty before placing the order.

This looks pretty much ok. But, as per other dimers and their experience, you can never be sure about custom duty. They may ask for some other amount that you are calculating.
But, that is the worst case. You may consider the total amount of device 1-1.5k higher than what you are calculating.

Has anyone used this offer with the discount code for the first 1kg waived off?

What happens if the weight is say 2 kgs? Seeing the rates on their site, the normal charge for 2kg would be 20.75+3*3.25 = $30.50.

After applying the coupon for 1kg off, do they charge you $30.5-$20.75-$3.25=$6.50 or $30.50-2*3.25=$24?

I dunno the calculation but I shipped a 0.5 pound parcel today with the service and they were charging me about $21 for it with the coupon I got a discount of about $18 and just had to pay $2.94.This included a fuel surcharge of $2.80 and an insurance of 10% the value of goods, which came out to be $0.14

I googled for import duty on wall paining, it seems to 10%.
If the item price is less than 5K, you may try contacting hopshopgo and see if they can mark it as gift. Though, chances are less that they will do it.

Assuming you’re purchasing a $39.95 priced item, the approx cost would be as follows:
Item cost $39.95
from lanny25’s post, you may consider Hopshopgpo’s shipping charges as approx $3.
total = 42.95$
Now there would be currency conversion charges + service tax etc. It will come close to 4%. Hence approx total cost → 2333+93 = 2426
Now there would be 10% import duty, ie. 243/=

Hence the total cost would be, 2426 + 243 → 2669

PS: Please check if the website is also charging any shipping amount.. If so, your total cost will increase!

I think the website he mentioned refers to painting stencils, if yes, then the duty is whole lot more.
