Contest - Let's assemble cheapest possible PC
I was looking at this thread http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t… and an idea struck in my mind, Why not look around for cheapest computer components available online and try to assemble the most economical PC which could do the basic job of running word processing applications and browse internet.
Actually this question has been posed to me by a number of people ranging from my house maid to colleagues, ‘sasta se sasta computer kitne ka aa sakta hai’. Let’s try to find out an answer to this useful question. To make things more interesting let’s give it the shape of a contest. Here is the outline of the contest proposed by me :
Contest task :
Put together links of all components required to assemble a basic computer i.e Cabinet, SMPS, Processor, Motherboard (with integrated sound and network interface), CPU Fan, Keyboard, Mouse, Hard disk, RAM, Monitor (CRT or LCD), (no need of optical drive)
Minimum requirements :
Processor Speed >= 1 GHz
RAM – 1 GB or more
Hard disk – 80 GB or more
Other components can be of any brand or size but should be brand new
Rules
: 1. Most of the rules would be same as observed in the recently concluded DPL.2. The entry should contain link for each component along with price and coupon code if any. The component links can be from different websites. The product in the link should not be out of stock. The participant should also clearly mention the total price of the proposed PC
3. A link can contain single component, multiple components or the whole pre-assembled PC together. The idea is to find the cheapest possible PC, whichever way. The components should be compatible with each other.
4. Bank specific coupons having flexible nature (i.e which can be used by other banks customers also) would be acceptable. Vodafone ebay coupons not acceptable since they cannot be procured by everyone.
5. Ebay seller should have rating > 50
6. The product listing should have been there before the start of this thread.
7. The product should be deliverable to all major cities in India, not limited to one or two cities.
8. The decision made by the OP, that’s yours truly – login33 would be final (but based in consultation with the inputs by the senior members)
Prizes :
1. The top most entry (i.e the one with cheapest price) will get Rs 200 recharge or Flipkart gift voucher of the same amount.
2. A consolation prize of Rs 100 recharge for another entry which might not be the cheapest but still value for money. (not necessarily the second cheapest)
Contest Schedule :
The contest would begin today (April 14, 2013) at 10 A.M and end on 15th April at 6 P.M.
Entries made before or after the stipulated time will not be considered. Any suggestions regarding the rules for the contest are welcome before the start time of the contest. Please let me know if I have missed something.

& win xp is already not in fashion
I guess someone who is investing for bright future of their children like maids or low income people they should go for a better config than p4

I agree to some of those things dear, but the contest clearly was for cheapest PC with the minimum requirements mentioned..and the entries were just to help people know the choices..anybody actually looking to assemble a cheap PC for someone need not follow them religiously, one can be very flexible in this..

few things you should know, even though its possible to see your laptop on a crt tv its not at all beneficial as pixel size of tv and monitor differs. just imagine your laptop having 5-6 icons on desktop and on tv whole screen will be stretched and these 5-6 icons will take away whole screen. katreena will look like 2 sonakshi in 1, if you can imagine that.

I am going by google search and instrument that can solve your problem and don’t have 1st hand exp so try at own risk. and no need of recharge. I would have replied without any prize consideration also.
nd lastly, I don’t see any reason of watching laptop display on tv other then broken display of laptop. if thats so change panel or buy a tablet. because of colours, pixel and resolution difference your head will pain in few minutes.

well its very easy all u need is a s video to rca & a 3.5mm aux to wire
connect s vdeo n aux to ur laptop & rca(only yellow to yellow keep others unused if u dont get video by yellow try putting red & white in the tvs yellow video port) to tv &
in tvs audio white & red u need to put the other end of aux wire which has red & white

to get video on tv u need to press f5 key
im not sure but there is a key with a symbol of tv on it
