do u know how much the lens alone costs? im not an expert in DSLRs but i hav read that there are different types of lens and the bundled lens can do the job pretty well, but lenses with a lesser range can perform better

let me know so that i can post the prices accordingly… with or without lenses?

I read that the kit lens with this camera is a good lens to start with so I’ll buy it with the body because the lens costs around 300 USD with body and 400 USD if bought separately.

EDIT: The kit lens is available for 15k on eBay.in:

Kage, I guess u can search for D7000 in ebay, and any seller who has 99 or above feedback you can buy it from him after tying Diwali2011 code. Your landing cost should be ~Rs. 67-68K. To get cheaper than that, you can wait for Diwali if some other offer comes by.

Somehow I think you can go for the 18-135 mm lens later and buy the body separately.

Bro, I am happy to have finally zeroed on Nikon D7000 after many days of comparison between Canon and Nikon.

I know that I’ll be sticking with Nikon system now for a lot of time because of the investments I’ll be making in buying lenses and flash lites etc. I hope Nikon system is not very expensive compared to Canon. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

I’ll need a lens if I buy the body only. Which lens should I buy separately?

Thanks Neo bro for all your efforts! I am sure going to wait for Yebhi’s codes as they look more promising than eBay’s current deals. I am also going to check local deals in Hyderabad. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

18-135 mm lenses will offer you enough to fiddle about from the beginner stage to the next (from what I have read and talked with a couple of friends) which should easily be 3-4 years. You can check the lenses at a Croma store and try interchanging lenses between manufacturers too to get a feel of it. The 18-135 lenses on ebay are mostly of Canon. I’m sure there are lenses of similar specs available in Nikon too.

what type of photos do u normally shoot?

some of the categories of specific lens types are
superzoom for long range shots, usually for people who like to take shots of nature
telephoto for even more zoo
prime lenses which give a shallow depth in field and best for potraits
wideangle lenses can be used to shoot a wider area

the standard lens can do all this but it wont be as good as the specialized ones https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

like Jackal mentioned its better to try the standard lens and experiment first before investing in any of the other lens types

These two categories at present. More of wideangle lenses

wideangles hav focal length less than 35mm
i think u must get a body alone and buy the lens separately https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for posting your research bro. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

I’ll do a bit more research on whether to buy a body only. I am confused if I should buy the kit lens along with the body and save around 5k.

I have read that the kit lens is a good all purpose lens and has a good resale value. Also it is not a heavy lens so will be good while traveling. My main aim is to strike a deal with 5-10% off on this camera.

Kage, We have just entered the festive season. Its pretty obvious that with high interest rates and lower consumer spending, the stores (both online and offline) are going to come up with good offers to get volumes in Diwali (at reduced margins maybe). So you can hope to get the camera too offline / online much cheaper then. As for lenses, its best if you try them out yourself on an evening at some elecronic store to know more about their differences after doing some bit of research yourself.

It is a huge investment (atleast 1/4th of a car https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif ), so it pays to be exhaustive and not just bank on videos / reviews alone. Thanks.

I checked Shopper’s Stop where they have decent offers going on. You can get accessories of your choice worth 10% of MRP or buy at their offer price (slightly less than MRP) and get a few freebies like tripod, cleaning kit and UV filter. You might get reward points and gift certificates for bill above 30,000 (this part has to be confirmed from First Citizen Desk).

Reliance Digital is giving 10% of MRP worth coupons but you need to spend 2 times the coupon value to redeem the coupons. eg. to redeem coupon of 100, you’ll need to spend 200. This offer sucks. After all it is Reliance https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

I will check Croma on Sunday and hope to get a good deal.

And yes, the investment for this camera is big for a beginner. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Yesterday went to SS to get a mixer. They had this 10% off running in August, but have cancelled it now. The big disadvantage in SS is they sell on MRP only. No discounts. That kind of sucks. Though they have the latest goods.

There must be some local famous electronics guy in Hyd with whome you can check too. Croma, I would suggest you to take a trip on a weekday afternoon. They are swatting flies then anyway and will give u unbridled attention.

Nikon D7000 Body only + 2GB + Bag for Rs. 51450 on indiaplaza after using AMEX500OFF

that makes it Rs.50 lower than the ebay offer with a 5% off code https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif
but im not sure about recommending indiaplaza for purchasing such a high priced item because of their customer care https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

Thanks chauhanparth577 bro for your suggestions and help! https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif I did check out the cameras from the Canon camp and they are at par with Nikon. But I did some soul searching and realised that I can buy the Nikon D90 instead of Nikon D7000 and save a neat 20,000 INR.

I am ordering Nikon D90 body only and will go for a after market lens to suite my need. I have a long way to go even with the Nikon D90 so I’m saving the 20k for better lenses.

Yes bro, I’m buying it from ZoomIn.

www.zoomin.com/Nikon/D90VRL...it

Apply DIWALI-4000 code for 4000 off

https://i.imgur.com/eDxOb.png

I was thinking of eBay where free gifts are available but ZoomIn is also giving free gifts and also is a more reliable site to buy something worth 50K!

Shopping Friend Shopping Friend

I tried payment for D90 6 times with my HDFC credit card on ZoomIn and it failed. I checked with bank and also used it on eBay without any issues. So it must be an issue with ZoomIn gateway.

Looks like a sign to wait for a good deal on Nikon D7000. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

As of now, the difference between D7000 (Yebhi) and D90 (ZoomIn) is 16.5k online. If I can somehow get a deal which narrows down this difference to 10k, then I would love to buy the D7000.

Patience is the key!

Kage its good your payment didn’t go thru man. D90 shoots 720p and that too not that great. Check it here http://gizmodo.com/5055525/nikon-d90-video-test…

Your D7000 is a good choice. Only the lens needs to be sorted out. I saw a lot of Nikon lenses today on buytheprice. U too can check that out. Hope it helps.
