Tariffs: Have always put customer first. Jio tariffs are built on three principles. 1) customer should play for only one service — voice or data. So all voice calls will be absolutely free.
1 GB for Rs.50.. wow!
students will get 25% extra data with valid ID card
Free all India roaming.

Well since calls & SMS are free, it means that they’ll be counted against your data balance, after 2016, so it’s not feasible without a good amount of GB’s in your account.
I and many others have explained about this previously. Even though the call uses data tech (Volte) they won’t deduct it from your primary data balance (In plain words, you can use your complete data without any deductions)
Does the same concept apply for apps like JioPlay and JioOnDemand? CC @thrifty_indian @NavneetP.S. Please say yes so I can also get rid of my DTH connections.
Definitely not (T&Cs of these apps always would say data charges apply) and has nothing to do with the VoLTE tech. But if they offer these apps with free data (99.9% they won’t 
) many of the big companies will have serious troubles and reliance will have too many lawsuits against them

Well that’s the US you’re talking about & not India, VoLTE uses data packets & as such it could be counted against your data balance & that’d be perfectly legal as well. Call me a skeptic or whatever but the checkered past of these telcos (including JIO as it was RCOM back in the day, in fact 12yrs back my first mobile was from the same firm) makes me wary for sure.

Reliance will charge Rs. 50 per GB of data
The more your usage, the lower the rate will be

or it might be that the apps might be using some kind of different protocol or header that will let the usage of those apps not be counted in the data balance

It’s definitely possible but again depends on the intent of telcos, if they wanna charge you for data (including VoLTE) there isn’t anything you can do, except port out of that network.

What Mukku explained is you can get Rs.50 a GB even Rs.25 a GB if you buy high volume data plans
This means there will be no. Rs.50/GB pricing because Rs.4999 gives 75GB data so who will buy this plan if they would be getting Rs.50/GB
Conclusion: You may subscribe to plans like Rs.499 which gives 12GB data so approx cost is Rs.50/GB and Rs.1499 plan gives 60GB data so Rs.25/GB

One last doubt. You can’t make voice calls / send SMS on a mifi device right so does that have a different plan or it’s the same plan for mifi device users too?

Was not base tariff/pay-as-you-go mentioned as 5 paise/MB i.e. Rs 50/GB?

The 1499/- plan has 40GB, for JioNet Mifi device I assume, with the regular smartphone user getting 20GB plus 4G unlimited night usage. Dunno where you got the 60GB number from, same goes for 499/- plan

Oh my God just realised how big a thing is JIO.. He has captured everything.. Data,Movies,Music,Public Wifi, Wallet…
Just thinking what were the other Telco’s doing during this with such a vast market.

Don’t worry they would be surely excluded from data usage. Just because it is plausible doesn’t mean they would start billing you data for your calls. That’s not how a new operator would do it or for that reason any operator would do. Just that it is a better tech they have adopted it and not for data billing the voice calls which doesn’t make much sense for them or the customers. No where in the world has that been done and in India too it won’t happen.

You can use regular data cards to send SMS, but that’ll be heavily restricted via Jionet Mifi devices, VoLTE might be totally impossible though.

They were busy lobbying, hatching plans to make more money by way of cheating customers through VAS activation, stopping BSNL from becoming good and what not.

No where in the world you find such low priced plans either man, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see voice calls being included in data usage.

Well, they were and are expecting Jio to fail..
As Mukesh Ambani said, instead of focusing on their own quality, they are focusing on increasing hurdles for Jio.

No where in the world you find such low priced plans either man, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see voice calls being included in data usage.
Don’t convert the dollar pricing to rupees and say it is cheap here. You have to consider the purchasing power parity when you can compare prices.
