How to Root Redmi 1s

Download the update.zip from the below link. You need to be registered on miui.com
http://en.miui.com/thread-21881-1-...ml

Follow the steps mentioned below to root (copy-pasted the steps from the above URL)
Steps for rooting:

  • Download the file update.zip to your PC (because download via browser on phone often is not working properly)
  • Connect your Redmi 1S via USB
  • Copy the file update.zip to the folder ‘Computer\HM 1S\Internal storage’ (root of internal storage, meaning the top most folder)
  • Disconnect your Redmi 1S properly from USB (use ‘Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media’ from USB icon in Windows SysTray)
  • Boot into Mi-Recovery (for this launch the Updater app, press the menu/options button and from the menu choose ‘Reboot to recovery mode’)
  • In the Mi-recovery select and confirm ‘English’ (or Chinese if you are capable to understand)
  • Select and confirm ‘Install update.zip to System’, this will take one second
  • Select and confirm ‘Reboot’
  • After reboot go to Security → Permission and activate Root permission
  • Enjoy your rooted Redmi 1S

How to underclock

  • Install No-frills CPU control from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=i...
  • Give it Root permissions
  • Set the Max clock to 1.402 Ghz
  • Set the mini clock freq to 300 Mhz
  • Don’t select “apply on boot” for now. If anything goes wrong, u can reboot the device and it will set it to default.

Install CPU spy to monitor the states of the CPU (not required)

Fix for low RAM issue

I don’t guarantee that the above method helps in solving the heating problem but it is worth the try https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

Let me know if this helps. Thanks https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

So, can anyone comment what’s the current performance of rooted phone after using it for week..

tried all the steps mentioned above. RAM seems to have freed up a little bit however overheating persists.CPU clock speed is set to 1.402 as recommended by OP & Monitored the temperature and it is hovering between 48- 54 C all the time with Battery temp around 40c. I have noticed that the CPU is always at 30-40 % even though no app is running in the background. my Mi3 with tons of apps runs at 43 – 45c during idle

MinFreeManager is of not much use, pls uninstall undo/uninstall it. I noticed this but couldn’t edit the first post https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif .
When I play games, the temperature rises to 55C but after I’m done playing it drops to 35-40C in about 15 seconds.
It is strange that even at idle your temperature is 48-54C. Try installing any task manager and monitor which application is actually using the CPU to find the culprit. Pls note that you need to apply the No-frills CPU settings every time you boot.

I have tested Redmi 1s Heating issue.

Applied the patch. installed the no Frill App.

under-clocked to MAX: 1.2 GHZ, MIN: 300MHZ.

Heating is still there, particularly while working with camera. turn the Camera for 5 mins, it started heating like an “old Edition bulb”, I wonder if I replace my laundry iron with my new Redmi 1s. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

I presume the LCD screen is causing that issue.

there seems no problems while taking calls. more testing to go…

@all…those who still have RAM issues please do the following and you will have around 400-450mb free memory of RAM

Go to Settings —> Developer options and under “APPS” set background process limit to 1, also try to check “Don’t keep activities.”.

Reboot and check…!!!

PS: If you want more RAM free… install RAM Manager and make a swap partion( microSD card space required) to help increase ram performance and giving it extra ram boost when needed if you are experiencing ram shortages. I would nt recommend this but before doing anything, please make sure that you know what you are doing..!!!)

Guys….

All of you having issues with MIUI and don’t mind shifting over to stock android can flash the stock android 4.4.4 ROM in this thread. this rom solves all the heating issues and RAM issues. I have like 450mb ram free on boot now. Say goodbye to App FCs .
Follow the instructions carefully. I.e first Root, then flash the Recovery and then wipe , and then flash the rom and Gapps.

I did and it’s FRIKKIN AMAZING !! No bugs at all so far. Everything works perfectly , calls on both the sims and even the camera. Do give it a shot. The link is :

Installed Mokee ROM. the ROM is damn fast. Now Redmi with Mokee ROM is running as fast as my Mi3 with MIUI:shock:
Phone still seems to be generating heat. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

I’m using this ROM from last one hour. It’s really really fast. Infact i now want to flash my Mi3 with a stock ROM. AFter using this ROM on redmi my mi3 feels slightly sluggish on MIUI ROM. Guys install this ROM if you want to unleash the real potential of redmi 1S. RAM management is excellent. even after running 7 – 8 apps in the background i’m getting around 300 Mb free RAM.

I was facing Signals issue too which seems to have been fixed after Flashing this ROM.

Only thing that needs to be now monitored is overheating. So far seems okay but no significant difference from MIUI ROM.

Glad ur finding it awesome. Same here. This ROM is blazing fast. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif But I’m not facing any overhearing issue.. But then I never had them on MiUi either. Only niggle is speaker output quality is low and a bit jarry. But that should be fixed soon.

How did you installed TWRP.img?

Shopping Friend Shopping Friend

@above

Simple method is to download the Zip file. Rename it to " Update" and place it in the root of redmi 1s internal memory.

Turn of the laptop. Hold down Volume up + Power button will take you to Mi Recovery screen. From there select English and then select Install update file. It will automatically detect the file and install it. To navigate in Mi recovery use Volume up for scrolling up and volume down to scroll down. Use power key to select.

The process hardly took 5 mins.
remember you need to flash Gapps( google apps) too if you need google apps.

The file is in img format that’s why I am asking otherwise I would have renamed it already. How did you flashed the img?

Got the redmi 1s after 20 long days of waiting… As usual rooted it immediately https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif … Removed all google and facebook garbage except gmail and play store.
Version 36 is installed but after rooting it will not update any further. There is a method to remove the 1 from 36.0.1 from the rooted version which helps to get the updates….If anyone knows it please post the link…
There is very little heating of the device as of now… Getting about 300mb free ram…Thanks especially to omsairam and cybertechie for being of such help…

Go to security then permission and then go to auto-start management
Deny unnecessary apps to auto start

I am slowly starting to dislike this phone now… Firefox keeps on force closing… Other background apps are closed down if we move to other apps and we have to reopen them… Worst ever ram management and even worse app management. I have tried to change the permission manager settings and just cannot get the damned thing to work properly. Hell, even old 2.3 version phones work better than this phone….

Deal Newbie Deal Newbie

those who are facing ram problem should try ram swapping.. increase ram swap to 500mb or 1gb and it should work fine without removing any app…multitasking will improve.. try in sd card only and if you have class 10 card it will work better.
