How to Root Redmi 1s
Download the update.zip from the below link. You need to be registered on miui.com

Follow the steps mentioned below to root (copy-pasted the steps from the above URL)
Steps for rooting:
- Download the file update.zip to your PC (because download via browser on phone often is not working properly)
- Connect your Redmi 1S via USB
- Copy the file update.zip to the folder ‘Computer\HM 1S\Internal storage’ (root of internal storage, meaning the top most folder)
- Disconnect your Redmi 1S properly from USB (use ‘Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media’ from USB icon in Windows SysTray)
- Boot into Mi-Recovery (for this launch the Updater app, press the menu/options button and from the menu choose ‘Reboot to recovery mode’)
- In the Mi-recovery select and confirm ‘English’ (or Chinese if you are capable to understand)
- Select and confirm ‘Install update.zip to System’, this will take one second
- Select and confirm ‘Reboot’
- After reboot go to Security → Permission and activate Root permission
- Enjoy your rooted Redmi 1S
How to underclock
- Install No-frills CPU control from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=i...
- Give it Root permissions
- Set the Max clock to 1.402 Ghz
- Set the mini clock freq to 300 Mhz
- Don’t select “apply on boot” for now. If anything goes wrong, u can reboot the device and it will set it to default.
Install CPU spy to monitor the states of the CPU (not required)
Fix for low RAM issue
- Install MinFreeManager (Require Root) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=c...
- Click menu button > Preferences > Mild
- Click Menu button > Apply
List of apps that can be safely Freezed to free up the RAM

- ANT HAL Service
- Browser (Using Crome)
- Drive
- Flipkart
- Google Hindi Input
- Google Pinyin Input
- Google Play Book
- Google Play Movies
- Google Play Music
- Google Play Newsstand
- Google+
- Hangouts
- Mi Cloud (Required for themes)
- MiTalk
- Play Games
- SIM Toolkit
- Sync with Mi Cloud (Required for themes)
- Updater (Needed to update)
- Video Player (using MX player)
- Xiaomi Assistant
Hibernate Apps (helps in freeing up RAM)
- Install Greenify from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=c...
- go to Security → Permission → Auto start management and add auto start apps
- select greenify
I don’t guarantee that the above method helps in solving the heating problem but it is worth the try

go to security, then permissions and the uncheck the set by miui option,
miui sets the rules of access and permission on it’s own accordingly, so u need to change those
does rooting or upgrading to kitkat 4.4 version rom solves heating problem? I have ordered redmi today
what is the average ram memory u get after doing this.. I didn’t go above 300 MB that’s why iam asking

Good post OP.
Though the best way of the lot to increase RAM is to use 1-4GB swap partition. My phone is butter smooth now after swapping 2GB and multitasking is just awesome. My Free RAM is above 2500 now at all times and even ram hogging HD games also are working very smooth

You do need a class 10 sd card though, less than that it actually will make UI more laggy!

I exactly followed the first two steps like rooting &under-clocking installed NOFrillsCPU, Link2SD, MInfreemanager and greenify it worked like a charm battery life got extended,got more RAM and more important no heating issues(You will find heat like other smart phones have while playing but while I bought this phone it will get heat if i take even continuous 8 pics now all are gone after following these steps.

You suggestions are very nice.I have learned a lot but i am facing problem quit different
it is while charging phone my phone gets heat.
i have check few other suggestion while charging
1.trun off the internet
2.Closing all app using grennify
3. close all app
4. switch off
the all above cause the hearting issue also while playing games like subway suffer, it is hanging for a second and getting fast after the next second
please help to resolve these issue.

Hello and thanks for the tuto, I have followed it but according to CPU SPY this is half worked on my redmi 1S (MIUI-JHCCNBH45.0.1) → the first core stay always on 1593Mhz ! (nevertheless one of them work on the selected minimum speed of 300Mhz…)
Does anybody know why? or should i reinstall snapdragon batterygury (uninstalled before the beginning of the topic)
About the cpu, this is a strange story, the differents softwares read on the config files that the processor is a MSM 8226 (1,2 or 1,4ghz) but xiaomi claim that’s a MSM 8228 (1,6Ghz), even somebody enjoy himself to open a phone to proove on youtube that is a 8228
