Long ago, sbi used to advertise that you can redeem your points at the merchant pos, you have to tell them you want to redeem your points, they will deduct the value of the points and pay rest using the same card.

But I havent seen that in a while. So not sure. If it's still available. And it would make sense that pos terminal should be from sbi right?

You need to have a conversation with the merchant you want to transact. All pos terminals show various account they can debit from. Maybe there is a rewards account. Ask your merchant if he knows how.
