I got to know interesting points about the Standard Chartered Manhattan card. Everyone thinks it is best card but it is also has draw backs.
1. If your purchase is less than 1000 in supermakets and departmental stores won’t earn neither reward points nor cash back
2. Once we reached 500 cashback for the month, none of the transactions in supermakets and departmental stores won’t earn reward points or cash back.
3. For each transaction in departmental and super markets limited to Rs. 200. If you spend 10 k also 200 cashback, and for the remaining money they won’t issue rewards points
New news…but not having:-}
i never understood reward points and never got anything out of it.
but atleast 200 in some of the months (say even 5 months only will be 1000) will be better than nonsense points.

The minimum transaction value for cashback eligibility is Rs.1000.00 with effect from July 2012 for Manhattan Platinum card.

True and the other drawback is that they categorize a Merchant as on the basis of Merchant Category Code which is assigned to these categories by Mastercard and Visa. The bank which installs the EDC machine at the merchant (known as the acquiring bank) needs to maintain the merchant under the correct category code.
If any of these merchants have not been registered under the correct MCC by the acquiring Bank, then they would not be able to provide cash-back to the customer.

You can split your purchase so as to get higher cash back.
Additional Information for dimers
Using the Manhattan card you can also earn 5% cash back from few of the online stores that we dimers generally shop, the below list is based on my knowledge, you can add to list if you are aware of any other sites
- HomeShop18
- Tradus
- imitu

Not sure why you din’t receive bro, but ppl who had purchased from HS18 in the gold coin offer earlier (without going for the EMI option of Citi, ICICI, HDFC) who are are aware of this used the SC Manhattan and got the 5% cash back credited to their accounts
okey !
might be i have misplaced the facts
(either used some other card or done split transaction on manhatton)
ok, will try next time
I sent number of emails to SC from Oct 19th onwards but they are not giving the exact answer to my question.
Always repeating the same thing whatever is there on their website. At least they should mention the list of departmental stores and super markets.
If Mall word is coming then it is eligible for 5% cashback for eg., South Indian shopping mall, chennai shopping mall etc.,

I got cashback from homeshop18 and departmental stores like Bigbazzar, 6 to 10 and one more of which I do not remember the name.. Will update it once I visit that market.
I got cashback from homeshop18, Fashion and You, Tradus and departmental stores like Bigbazzar,D-Mart, More,Star Bazaar, Spensers etc
Giftcardsindia.in MCC code will also come under ‘Departmental Store’.
So first place an order for AMEX 5000 cards with SC card and get 200 rs cash back (had to get 250 but max is 200 ):-}
Then get 250 rs of giftcardsindia GV as part of their diwali offer
& Indiatimes is running 5% on BB vouchers., if that offer still exists upto the time you get AMEX card then buy them@5% discount
I bought in the month of Aug when they are giving 5% off on amex cards and I didn’t get 5% cashback from SC

I strongly disagree for tradus as I never got cashback from them on my sc card.
I just got SC Manhattan card last month and just got first statement a few days back.
Did SC statement didn’t mention the category code of the merchant???
I had a Kotak card which had 10% cash back on MCC RESTAURANTS & ENTERTAINMENT & in it’s statement it will mention the MCC code too with each entry.
I checked my old statement of Kotak card from which I once bought AMEX card and the MCC code for giftcardsindia is ‘Departmental Store’. This is almost 8 months back and don’t know changed after!!!!
Even PEPPERFRY MCC code is ‘Departmental Store’, but I suggest you to stay away from it
Guy I prefer titanium card over manhatan… if i had to pick one
Titanium gives me 2.5 % Cashback on petrol.. which is unique on any petrol pump… ( min 500 rs petrol one time )
It gives me 5% Cashback on BSNL , Telecom & Electricity.
If I calculate i spend around 5000 per month on these 3 things i.e ~60000 rs per year and i get ~3000 rs cashback… )
Its a good card…
I know the reason.
With Manhattan Card you get 5% cashback for departmental store or supermarket.
Now the whatever may be the defination of Departmental store or supermarket you will get cashback if that seller has registered himself under any of these 2 categories with bank and payment gateway. When a seller starts its buisiness or starts accepting payment by electronic means ,bank asks what is the nature of buisiness? If the seller provides that it runs a dept store then he will be given an unique 4 digit code called Merchant Category code for department store. Then it will be treated as departmental store always whatever may be the item he sells!!!In that way Ebay and HS18 registered themselves as dept store and hence we get cashback for all transactions with them evenn if they sell apparel or electronics or stationary!!
Even these are departmental stores

As long as one has not exhausted his maximum cashback limit for the month (which is Rs 500), I don’t see any issue in receiving cashback for the above mentioned stores. You can cross out ebay from it though.
here the issue is once you crossed cash back of 500 if you shop again in that category you won’t get neither points nor cash back.

The EDC that that guy is swiping our card in BB should be under the MCC category of Departmental stores, but few of the BB stores have EDC machines which are not the registered for the required MCC compliant.

I have shopped several times on ebay using my manhattan card and never recieved any cashback.
Anyone has SBI platinum card?
I got one though its services suck but it has a no limit cashback in terms of cashpoints of 10% on all swipes. 1 cashpoint =0.25 rupee so total cashback comes to 2.5% and with no limits. best is it is applicable on all swipe transactions .
I am not sure if sbi is offering this cashback now so check thoroughly if you go for one.
Old news, but thanks for sharing again VU
