I have bought 1600 Mhz RAM, Corsair PSU as per recommendation and WD HDD now confused between FX-4300 and G3258 sad
Please help me, I have researched a lot but unable to take decision.
Will G3258 support 1600 Mhz RAM? If I choose G3258 then how to overclock? How much power overclocked g3258 will consume? Which motherboard to choose?

I was about to place order for FX-4300 but saw power consumption and got confused. If you guys recommended FX-4300 then please suggest motherboard.

I need to buy asap.
Thanks.

@OP

Just saw your PM. I’m glad that you sorted out the HDD mounting problem.

Regarding the CPU temp, that is way too high. Under normal circumstances, idle temp of fx series processor is usually around 35-40C . Did you mount the CPU cooler properly? You don’t have to apply extra thermal paste. Stock cooler comes with decent thermal compound. Did you remove the plastic covering the thermal compound? I suspect incorrect cooler installation here. Please go through the youtube videos to mount the stock cooler for amd processor.

AMD stock cooler for FX processor is loud but it does a very good job compared to stock intel cooler.

Thanks a lot https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

CPU Fan was lose that’s why it was making too much noise. I fixed and noise is half now. Any way to further decrease noise coming from the computer?

CPU temperature is 22 degree C now. But I am worried about my graphics card. It’s temperature is 55 degree C without any application running and fan is running at 749652 RAM. SpeedFan shows it’s hot. Please help me with this.

Thanks.

How is the performance of the system? Have you loaded the OS on SSD drive?
Graphics cards can run fine at high temperatures. 55C sounds a tad high during idle. Should be near 45C mark but i would not worry too much about 55c. Update the latest catalyst drivers for graphics card. Placement of Case fan also plays a vital role in regulating GPU temps. I believe you have added at-least one Exhaust fan.

FX coolers runs loud. There is nothing much you can do . I hate revving sound from the CPU fan so ended up installing cooler-master Xtraflow case fan. Xtraflow is even noiser however the sound is linear and somewhat pleasant . I have configured it to run at medium speed all the time. It has overshadowed FX stock coolers noise. My machine sounds like a mini server now.https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

performance? Butter smooth https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png 20 seconds boot and 20-25 seconds shutdown(installed a lot of applications)

Yes I have installed OS on SSD. Thanks a lot for the help. 1 Exhaust fan came with computer case which is installed at rear side.

Please guide me how to make a good cooling environment. I have ordered 1 Deepcool 120 MM fan.

Wish I will be able to utilize my new system.
Thanks.

Update the BIOS of gigabyte 970a-ds3p mobo that you got. Ensure that you download the correct drivers.
20 seconds boot time? I’m guessing you have loaded windows 7. Windows 8.1 on SSD boots in less than 10 seconds.

You don’t need more than 3 case fans for your setup. One on the top to direct the airflow at the GPU..you can also install it on the side cover. One fan on the back of the case as an exhaust and one fan at the front . If you got just two fans, install one at top/side( Intake) and one at back( Exhaust)

It doesn’t, only new installations of win8 are sub 10 secs as far as boot times are concerned, of course depends on the SSD & UEFI (BIOS) options selected during bootup process https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

To get consistent sub 10 second boot times one must have a PCIe based SSD & ultra fast option selected in UEFI, especially when you have loads of programs installed https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

My experience says otherwise. Yes, i agree with the fact that system with unoptimized startup might take a few more seconds to boot up but in general boot time of wndows8.1/windows server 2012 installed on SSD’s are less than 10 seconds 90% of the times. I must have installed them on tons of machines. My workstation at home has 3 SSD’s with windows 8.1/server 2012 installed. Server boots up in approximately 6 seconds while windows 8.1 takes a second or two more. I can’t vouch for below par SSD’s from kingston or Adata or the likes. All my SSD’s are either from samsung or enterprise grade intel.

Go through this thread to get an idea of the boot up times people are getting out of SSD’s.

What you’re sayin probably hints at hybrid boot, boot from hibernation essentially & that is the only way win8 can boot in under 10secs regularly https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

As for the rest I have firsthand experience with 4 drive(SSD) RAID 0 & like I said earlier, only new win8 installs bootup that quickly outside of hybrid boot https://cdn0.desidime.com/Placeholders/No-Image-Available.png

@cybertechie Bro the computer stopped working. Whenever I plugin power socket MCB trips https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif After removing dust I tried again and the PSU smelled like burning with noise so I unplugged in a second. I am planning to RMA but not sure what else got damaged. I am really sad and tensed as this was a very good rig, just 1 year and 2 months and it’s not working. I have removed PSU from computer and it smells little like burning. Can I try again to see if it works? Or do paper clip test? It gave fault like noise so don’t want to take any risk without consulting your professional advise.

One more thing, MCB was tripping even before pressing the power on button on computer i.e. I power on the extension socket and MCB trips. when I unplug only CPU pin then MCB don’t trip.

All the signs (MCB tripping, burning smell) point to the fact that something is wrong. Get the PSU replaced under warranty (if possible) or buy a new one.

Just to be sure, you can attempt the paper clip test on the PSU after disconnecting all the PSU cables from the computer components.

Sorry to hear about your rig, bro.Like @DealSeeker mentioned, get the PSU RMA’d first. I believe you are using a Corsair PSU. Corsair service is very good.

Hi @cybertechie bro, please check my PM. I need your help.

I opened CPU cooler for cleaning dust, after fitting again PC start temperature is 79 degree again like earlier. (Last time it was fixed by properly fitting the fan, it is fit)

Do I need to reapply thermal paste or buy new CPU cooler? Please suggest both. Which thermal paste is good for FX 6300 or if we choose later which air/liquid cooler is best for AMD Fx 6300

Thanks.

Yes I will send them tomorrow, is there any way they can send within 2-3 days? I don’t have any other PSU so I am really stuck here. Thanks to techie bro, that laptop SSD upgrade is helping now but I really miss my rig. Is there any chance it can damage electric wires if I try paper clip test? I can smell burn. Also other hardware components are safe? I tried to put that SSD in laptop, it was detected bu unable to boot because of different hardware. I hope no major damage was caused. Still can I get chances of components getting damaged in this case? @cybertechie @DealSeeker

@smartnsh it is unlikely that any other parts maybe damaged. If you can borrow a PSU from a friend/computer store, you can test the system.

Hello fellow brothers,

I need little help in troubleshooting my computer.

When I turn on my computer, CPU fan runs for 2-4 seconds and then stop.

If I cold boot after 1 day it works for 1 minute then all fans stop.

I have changed heat sink again, tried paperclip test on SMPS.

Someone please guide what to do.
