Although I can probably do live monitoring and alerts for new PMs for a few users (3-4), the API is rate limited and so this is not practical. I mentioned this limitation here as well: http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

I shocked when I saw that chat feature is live for all, then what about my messages.

A web-based utility to let you download your DesiDime chat messages for archival.

DesiDime chat feature is a work-in-progress, to put it mildly. It just sucks in its present state if you need to find an older discussion. There is no search feature and even manually scrolling up to get older messages involves waiting for a few seconds after every 20-25 messages. Moreover, there is no automated way to get a copy of the chat messages. This utility aims to solve these problems.

This utility makes use of the DesiDime API to fetch a user’s messages (requires you to login) and generates a nicely formatted HTML file for immediate download. The HTML file format allows someone to “View Source” and directly copy a formatted message for quoting in another private conversation, should the need arise.

Yes, there is one indirect restriction imposed by the Desidime API, which has nothing to do with the utility itself. There seems to be a limit on the size (in bytes) of the chat messages which can be retrieved in a single query. So some users might get an “empty result” if they try to retrieve a large number of messages (e.g. 1000) and the average size (in bytes) of each of their chat messages is on the higher side. In simple words, size of a chat message is the number of characters in a chat message.

The only solution for now is to lower the number of messages you are trying to retrieve. If you make regular backups of your chat messages, say once or twice every month, and retrieve 500 or less messages in a single query, you would ideally never run into this issue.

I hope @admin can help me get past this issue with the API, as he has graciously done many times in the past.

4. I have specific reasons for not providing an email functionality at this moment. I might implement it in the future, though.
5. I have hosted this on a free, over-loaded server (to avoid compromising my privacy) so please be patient in case there are any outages.
6. Please give your feedback and/or suggestions for improvements.
